Wolves sign Basso

I may have doubted the possibility, but Mick McCarthy has managed to bring in a goalkeeper to play back up to Wayne Hennessey and Marcus Hahnemann.

With Carl Ikeme struggling with a shoulder injury, our Mick has had his sights firmly set on bringing in a new shot stopper.

Personally I thought it would be tricky as I doubted that anyone would want to come on loan to us knowing they were unlikely to actually play.

Well McCarthy has got his cover in the form of Adriano Basso.

Basso was a free agent after being released by Bristol City and hasn't played football since September 2009.

In total he made over 180 appearances for Bristol City between 2005 and 2009.

He has signed a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Vital Wolves Comment: This will probably be the least exciting transfer of the whole day, however Mick had a gap to fill and he has done so.

looks like we're gonna miss out on the chance to sign a left-back. paul konchesky has gone to forest and stephen warnock could be on his way to liverpool for 500,000 quid (bargain).. we should have tried harder to sign a left-back this month!!
SmithyWolves
Dont worry Smithy,Wardy has promised to stop playing 'striker'and concentrate on his natural position of left back.

Maybe Merlin aka 'The Pope'is going to pull a masterstroke and convert Basso into a left back!.

I've just been approached. Well, as I normally have to sit at the top of the BW Stand, I've been left back at Molineux for most of the season.

A very apt signing. Very significant, as well. Basso, in Italian, means, besides 'short', 'low' or 'lowly'. Wolves are certainly in a low position, and just this one 'capture' falls far short of requirements.

But it's only a back-up .. and free (apart from wages). What happened to the Stoke and Notts Forest defenders?
