'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No sympathy for Hodgson from Mick

There has been a lot of sympathy in the football world for Roy Hodgson after his spell with Liverpool.

Back in the summer after taking Fulham to an unlikely UEFA Cup, Europa wotsit final, Hodgson was manager of the year.

He was the bookies favourite for the England job when the pressure mounted on Fabio Capello and then up-stepped Liverpool to offer him a job, which of course he jumped at.

But with football the way it is, his head was soon on chopping block as he clearly went from a managerial genius to a disaster over night (well six months to be exact).

He wasn't out of work long though as he has stepped into the managerial hotseat with the Baggies after they sacked Roberto Di Matteo and his first game comes against us in the Black Country derby at the Hawthorns on Sunday.

"I guess it`s the biggest game of the season - it`s the local rivals and near neighbours. We`re both in a spot of bother, so it`s a huge game for both clubs.' Wolves gaffer Mick McCarthy told the Express & Star, before continuing: "I`m not sure there could be any extra spice added to it by Roy coming in with the way both clubs are. I hope he doesn`t keep them up instead of us.

"If it`s going to be one of us then I`d sooner it be Roy and West Brom than us. I want to finish above three other teams and I`m not bothered who they are.

Vital Wolves Comment: As my Vital Wolves comment yesterday was ignored, I'll ask again! ;)

So, just how many points will we take against West Brom and Blackpool?

I answered, and I'll answer again, unless Mick changes our negative tactics we will take 0 points from the above games. We have won only 1 out of 7 against the teams around us, cos whenever we get the ball the first instinct is to pass it back. Only Doyle and Jarvis (and now Hammil) seem confident enough to try and move the ball forward, otherwise, its back to Big George or Wayne who hoof it up and hope for the best.

While WBA is probably a closer match for RH than Liverpool was, I'm not certain that it's a snug fit. I certainly hope not. On Ad Mant's point, we all seem to be in agreement on the need to adopt more positive tactics if we hope to survive. I look forward to Sunday's game, which I will watch on my brother-in-law's computer, if my wife has not arranged a trip out with her sister.
