'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Murray handed testimonial

Matt Murray has been awarded a testimonial by Wolves.

The 29-year-old was forced to retire from professional football due to a persistent knee injury.

The Wolves shotstopper had been at the club for 20 years when he made the announcement in August that he wouldn't return from injury.

After hearing the news Murray said: 'I didn't expect it at all,'

He told BBC WM: 'I've had a lot of injuries and the club have backed me all the way.

'It's nice to get the testimonial to give a bit back to the local community, so hopefully we can raise a lot of money for some really good causes.'

Four charities have been selected to receive donations from the testimonial and other events. They are Penn Hall Special School in Wolverhampton, the Alzheimer's Society, the Stroke Service Cycling Group from West Park Rehabilitation Hospital and Mzamowethu Pre-Primary School in South Africa.

When asked if he was able to make an appearance in the game he added: 'That would be amazing. I still work hard in the gym and that would be unreal if I could do that.'
