So much at stake

Premier League survival, Black Country derby bragging rights, there is so much at stake on Sunday.

"It will be pretty edgy and nervy because of what`s at stake - our Premier League existence. There are 12 games to play and both teams need points.' Our Mick told the Express & Star.

He added: "Providing something ridiculous doesn`t happen like a goal from 30 yards or someone makes a mistake, or a stupid sending-off which changes the game, then it`s bound to be edgy."

'I`m not happy being in the bottom three - I don`t want to finish there and I don`t think we will.'

So what does the tale of the tape look like going into this battle?

Premier League Position:

WBA: 17th

Wolves: 20th

Premier League Points:

WBA: 27

Wolves: 24

Premier League Form:

WBA Home Form: Unbeaten in last three

Wolves Away Form: Lost last four

Prediction: When everything points towards a defeat for McCarthy's men, it's always worth a punt on them!

Vital Wolves Comment: During the same pre-match press conference, Mick mentioned that five wins between now and May would see us on 39 points and safety.

Like Bully, I think that the postponement of the match proved fortuitous. The teams are now far more evenly matched than they had been in mid-December, leaving aside the victory we had just secured over Birmingham. Not only have WBA plummeted down the table, but the players have also had to acclimatize themselves to a new manager. However good RH is - and he clearly is a very good manager- I suspect that his influence only becomes apparent over a relatively long period (that is, if the fans, players and management alike allow him the time to exercise it). Charismatic he isn't, so there will be no sudden rush of adrenaline, as occurred when Kenny Dalglish took over at Liverpool. Wolves, on the other hand, have a settled management, considerable self-belief (which I sometimes find exasperating) and a proven ability to match any team in the PL, if the spirit moves them. If one can criticize the feebleness of their mental approach to the games against Wigan, Blackpool and WHU, surely they will be up for such a crucial Black Country derby. If they play to the top of their form - and cut out the silly mistakes, of course - they should win at a canter. They won't, but a nervy 1-0 victory, courtesy of a toe-poke from Doyle will satisfy me.

I fear a repeat of the 2007 play-offs nervousness, edgyness, high balls in the centre of the field aimed nowhere. Milijas and perhaps one or two others with class would show it if we were facing Juventus instead. I see Crete has been infected with my all-out offensive illusions. I am with Banksy here; common, all-too-common, sense will prevail and a scrappy 1-0 win or 1-1 draw. Four points from the next two games is my hunch. As to MM's press conference, I still say 39 points won't be enough.

I want a minimum of six points from the WBA and Blackpool games!
Southbank60
........the maximum being six points plus + 6 goals difference, the bottom clubs losing, except those involved in direct clashes, which all end up as draws. Perfect!

Well, yes: my comment was made tongue in cheek. But, if you think about it, two six-pointers equal twelve points. And that's not taking into into account the results of other matches, as lovesW comment suggests.

i really really hope they fall apart against us tomorrow... all the baggies have is an attack.. their defence is pathetic as we all know, i think if we keep them out in the first half we should then go out and attack them in the second half and watch them fall apart.. 3-0 to the wolves!!!!!! COME ON ME BABBIES!!!!!..... UTW UTW UTW UTW UTW

I sensed SB 60's comment was quite tongue in cheek. Just felt like playing on words a bit: what would the maximum be, by extension(!), if the minimum be 6 points. But look at Crete, attack, attack, attack. What else? It's high time, and at high noon at the Hawthorns. Destiny call, not merely Crete Wolf's and ours.

As the Baggies have shippped the most goals in the PL, we should commit ourselves to all-out attack. MM should partner Doyle with Fletcher, though I expect the latter will have to give way to O'Hara. I would play them both. It's ridiculous putting Fletcher on with a few minutes to go. If Zubar's ankle fails the fitness test, we will have Foley back to strengthen the defence, if not our attacking options. Should we fall behind we'll have SEB and the kitchen sink on as well.

I want a minimum of 6 pints Banksy!!!.off down to the pub to watch the game!,back on here about 14-30hrs GMT.High noon is beckoning and all fans from the Black country to Malta and across to Crete will all be willing us to do the business,Come on me Babbies!!!UTW.
