Defend as a team says Berra

Wolves need to start defending as a team and keeping clean sheets on a regular basis.

That's the conclusion from Christophe Berra following Wolves claiming our fifth clean sheet of the season against Blackpool.

'We haven't kept as many clean sheet this season as we did last. But it's not like we have defended badly in games, it's maybe just individual errors that have cost us.' Berra told Wolves Official Website.

He continued: 'We just have to keep on working and as a team you defend from the front. You start from your strikers and it involves your midfielders and your back four.

'If we defend well as a team I'm sure we will keep more clean sheets.'

Recent form has shown an upturn with the five clean sheets all coming from our most recent fifteen games.

Vital Wolves Comment: For me, one other area we have to work on to avoid the drop this season is our away form.

While our clean sheet record is nothing special, away from home that figure drops even further to just 1 clean sheet all season, away at Liverpool.

Probably the main contributing factor to why we have the worst away record in the Premier League.

Winning just once and drawing twice from 14 games.

If we were to start picking up a few points away from home in the end of season run-in, we'd be looking a lot more comfortable.

At least Stearman is really begining to make a difference for us and to be fair Berra has begun to improve alongside him as well. It is our full backs who worry me!

Well, the back four as a unit, as well as individually, have improved but you are right, the full backs are still prone to make errors. If we are relegated by one point or on goal difference, Zubar's back pass against Bolton will come back to haunt us. On the hand, his runs up field have won us points. Elokobi is also operating quite effectively as a wing back. Of course, against the cream of PL wingers, their deficiencies as defenders do show. At least, I no longer automatically dread the sight of an opposing winger charging into our half.
