'If It's Football, It's Vital'

If Houllier wants sympathy...

then he should look it up in the dictionary says Wolves gaffer Mick McCarthy.

Our Mick has even narrowed it down for the under-fire Aston Villa manager, telling him exactly where to find it.

'I'd prefer it to be him than me so, no, to be honest I don't give a flying flute. I can empathise with him, I've been there, but 'sympathy' is not the word. Look it up in the dictionary, it's between sh*t and syphilis.' McCarthy told off the Guardian after the game on Saturday.

The comments came after Wolves took a vital three points at Villa Park, with Wolves hunting down the sides above us, which now includes Aston Villa.

McCarthy continued: 'I said we hoped we would drag them into the mire with us and there's no question that's where they are now … but we've still got eight to play.'

Wolves remain in the bottom three, but only on goal difference (and only one goal at that) with West Ham.

The Baggies are just a single point above us in 16th, with Blackpool, Aston Villa, Blackburn also level on points.

Fulham are just three points ahead in 12th.

In fact with the way the bottom of the table has now closed up with 24 points still on offer, even Newcastle and Stoke who are 11th and 10th will not be completely satisfied that they are out it just yet, especially considering we play both of them in our next three games.

well done Mick - I love the way he just says it as he sees it, if only a few more managers could be so straight forward and honest.

Well, I have noticed all season that he is often quoted as saying 'flying fiddle'- not sure that is exactly what he is saying. It seems to have taken the best part of five years, an over haul of a club in disrepair, a promotion, survival, one, probably two- but finally people seem to be 'warming' to our Mick. I've held my hands up and said he was never my first choice and whilst we have waved our fists at the skies on however many occasions there is no arguing that he, with The Mox & The Morgan transformed this club of ours. If we are sitting pretty eight games from now, I believe there can be a great future ahead of us. As Doyle has said today, we have been in this position for two years now, but rather than getting used to it, it is time to push on, and if we have managed to stay up again I promise that after a closing summary at the end of the season, that I will never mention 'money spent' and 'achievement' in the same sentence. Time to push on. A very promising future lays ahead.
