Away the Lads!

Away the Lads!

Onwards to Tyneside for the Merlin roadshow!

What is in store for us next week-end?

Same team or should I say 'Crazy Gang'? same result?

Are Newcastle starting to pay the price for off loading Andy Carroll to Liverpool?

He was certainly the difference when we met earlier in the season and they look to be struggling of late. I really didn't consider them to be joining in the 'dog fight' a few weeks ago but their results combined with the form of teams below them are slowly dragging them downwards.

Because of that I have just had a look at their remaining fixtures and it doesn't make pretty reading, they have got a tough run-in, it really is getting more difficult to judge what's going to happen as each weeks games go by.

I can understand people looking at the table and thinking more and more points are going to be needed but I think some of the teams involved will 'implode' and maybe not win another game, this is where I think Newcastle may just be ok, they have 36 points and two or three good results will be enough for them.

As for our game, again as I said before the Villa game I would take a draw and I think they would too, so maybe that would be the best result for both teams.

Wolves are the form team, Newcastle only winning one in the last ten, so we will be full of confidence, buoyed on by the great news of Matt Jarvis's call up into the England squad.

A win for us would really move us up and only a point behind Newcastle, lets hope these two great old clubs are still playing each other next year in the Premiership!

Was hoping Kights might have got on the pitch at Villa, here's hoping he can get a shift in next week-end, after another weeks training he must be chomping at the bit to get flying down the flanks.

Finally I have a feeling that one of the relegation spots will be filled by a team that hasn't been in the bottom three all year! Its been that sort of roller coaster of a season, I just hope that we are safe before that final game of the season and you know, I just think we might be on course for my predicted 44 points finish.

We are still on course for my predicted 56 point finish! Having said that, I would settle for a draw in the NE, though I am probably basing this view on our performance at Molineux. We were lucky to draw then but, as you point out, the relative strength of the teams has switched. The loss of Carroll adversely affected NU, whereas our players have grown in strength and confidence. If I had to choose a winner, I would plump for Wolves.

Incidentally, I have just noticed the league table at the side of the screen, and it shocked me to realise that, had we not carelessly thrown away a point against Bolton, we would currently lie in 14th. place, a rung above AV. Makes you think, doesn't it?

Good write up Crete. And points well raised. I had a good old moan aimed directly at Ashley, I said Ashleyyyyyy earlier in the season over his firing of Hughton; I think relegation would prove his latest, greatest mistake (or last, great mistake) because after recouping a significant chunk of his money with a return to the Premiership and the absurd amount he charged for Andy Carroll (yes he's good, but come on.) another relegation would see him put the club up again and this time I think he would take what he could and sit back flicking through wads of pound notes. As you pointed out, they hit a very slippery slope not long after the sale and four points above the relegation places is hardly a source of comfort. Ultimately I think they will stay up, but I think they are there for the taking next weekend. They are on a very poor run, and whilst I am not sure the level of disent of the club is near that of what we saw from the Villa fans, they can't be a happy bunch up there and now is as good a time as any; we are on our run of the season, are still improving, and by the time the game rolls around may well have Adlene and Hunt also knocking on the door. I can't wait to hear the roar go up when Kightly sprints onto the field (I hope this happens at home) but I don't think there was room for him at Villa, and I think this game will prove similar. Initially I wrote that I would have taken two draws from these two games but having seen us go about our business the way we did against Villa, confidence is high and seeing us win, whilst cherished equally, would not come as a surprise. Ultimately I would still take a draw, because looking at the fixtures, Albion v Liverpool, Wigan v Spurs and Arsenal v Blackburn and Manchester Utd at West Ham I don't see any of that four winning, and all will struggle to take anything. A draw would subsequently be enough to climb out of the bottom three and combining that long over due relief with a continuation of our unbeaten run, we would be presented with an even greater sense of optimism ahead of our following home game against Everton; three draws from three against them now- someone is due to buck the trend and I am even looking ahead to that game with a firm belief we may have climbed as high as 13th, 14th and these months of hard work may finally be reflected by the table. Whilst making the age old mistake of looking perhaps too far ahead, I think you are right about one of the relegated sides having not been in the bottom three through the season, and whilst they are hovering dangerously close already, Blackburn are certainly worth a bet.

Oh no! What a blow and one that will seriously affect our chances of staying up. With our luck Jarvis will get crocked on Tuesday. Thank goodness that Stearman and O'Hara did not get their Irish passports in time. I expect MM will give SEB the gig rather than select Fletcher, though it would be nice to see them working in tandem, as they did in the first half of the opening match of the season.
