Doyle's out! Which Striker Next?

So it looks like Kevin Doyle's Premiership season is over! Now the question is who will we use to replace him?

One good thing is that as least we are not short on replacements, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake or Steven Fletcher or maybe the secret weapon? Ward has been struggling to get in the side of late, maybe this is his chance?

This will determine I think whether or not Fletcher stays or goes at the end of the season, if he doesn't get a game now he never will and has been mentioned before how much will we get for him if he doesn't get any playing time in before then?

Holding the ball up and bringing other players into the game is what we need, which of the two is better able to perform this? I would give Fletcher a start, just to see what he can do as a lone front man, or maybe give them a half each.

Don't think at this stage of the season we can play two up front, we play better as 4-5-1, even more so after the arrival of O'Hara, certainly not in the away games anyway.

Doyle is a very good player at what he does, but I don't think he is a prolific goal scorer, so in that department I think its more or less 'as you were' with just one change in the offing.

To be honest, it brings up the question 'which Wolves player could we not afford to lose'? at this moment in time its not even one of our own,Jamie O'Hara, would I think be the one we would struggle without, he has for me, made the difference in these last few weeks.

In a funny sort of way, if it would have happened last year during the run-in we could have struggled more!

With no Fletcher and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake on a very bad run of form it would have been a struggle. So to take a positive view on this, yes its not good news but we are in a much better position to handle this setback than we have been before.

Next week-ends away game will give us a chance to see how far we have come in this last few weeks and our ability to replace key players lost through injury, at least whoever comes in should be joining a very confident team.

Merlin Quote - "“Doyle proved the best at that lone striker role but both Steven Fletcher and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake have played it and Stephen Ward is a handful when he does, so I’ve still got three strikers.” Is it just me?,or do I sense a sprinkling of desperation in that statement?. What must that do to a strikers confidence when 'at best' a utility player is suggested to be in the running for their position?. I have decided, for now and until the end of the season to withold my opinion on these public statements, but must raise my concerns on the benifits of them and what he hopes to achieve from them?. Surely their is enough competition when their are two quality strikers going for one solitary place in the starting line up without bringing a utility player into the mix. I know if MM keeps us up all will be forgiven, but if the worst happens, some of these 'gems' he comes out with could come back to haunt him.UTW.

Crete Wolf: I saw that quote too and, as you can tell from my comment in another thread (the Aliadiere one I think), I am just as miffed as you are.
