Jarvis is not for sale

Wolves gaffer Mick McCarthy has issued a firm hands-off warning to Liverpool after rumours linking them with a summer move for winger Matt Jarvis.

Following the Newcastle defeat the vultures were already circling over Molineux, ready to pick at the bones of an apparently already relegated side.

The fact that this is the closest battle to stay in the Premier League this season seems to have past many by, so the reports over the weekend all reported that we would have to cash in on Jarvis when we are relegated to the Championship (it's a forgone conclusion obviously).

But our Mick has slammed the press talk and has stated very clearly that we will not have to sell anyone under any circumstances.

"There is no reason at all why we have to sell anybody." McCarthy said to the Birmingham Mail.

He added: "If we did it would be after discussions between Steve Morgan and Jez Moxey and myself.

'But we don`t want to sell and there`s no reason why we should under any circumstances."

IF and it is still a BIG IF as I think we will survive, the minimum amount for Jarvis that we should consider is £10m
akela
And if we do not survive, Akela?. The amount either way is not of major consequence to the club, the player is. The determining question is, or would later be, whether Jarvis wants or would want to leave. On this, it is impossible to speculate; I would say Matt himself is putting off deliberating on the matter just yet. If we are relegated, the 3 M's would have a harder job trying to dissuade him to, and understandably so, and then I would not blame them should they fail.

At least we do have back-up in his position ...and the money would be handy, given our need for a couple of defenders. But, I made this point earlier in the season and received a fair amount of abuse because of it.

lovesW I answered your question on my original article comment, if we ultimately do not survive, then obviously Jarvis will have to take the opportunity given to him and will probably force a move, its a nature of the beast and if he does, I think we should be looking for £10m.
Akela
We do indeed have back-up, but that does not justify dispensing with a particularly good player when the Club's financial situation does not warrant it. The money has been there, is there now (top M) for those defenders, SB60; it would be rather that the appreciation of the quality and promise of the ones that we do have is too generous, all too generous. And I mean no abuse by saying that, dear friend, not in the least.
lovesW
Quite, Akela. In that case, let us hope Real or Barca get Bale for 80m, then Spurs could splash 35m of it on Jarvis. But I would say 'Arry will be more sensible than the gaffe-r at Anfiled has been.

...heavens, Anfield.!

I wasn't saying that I wanted to sell MJ merely to 'sugar the pill' should we decide to sell him. As MM has stated, he would not stand in the winger's way, should a top team offer crazy money for him. If that were to happen, the loss would be less than if we sold Kevin Doyle, for example, because do possess a clutch of decent 'wide boys'.
Southbank60
did we have to sell Bully! if holloway (the mouth) thinks Adams is worth close on £35 million then Jarvo has got to be £40 mill, realistically I would say £12 million.
johnwolf
Bah, you all want to give him aways so cheaply ! Anyone who wants to buy Jarvis should give him 80 - 120k a week and Wolves at least 20 - 25 million pounds ! But generally, I want Jarvis to spend his career at Wolves.
PanFiluta
Me too, but think of the left back we could buy with the £40m that johnwolf reckons MJ is worth. And we would still have Hammill, Hunt and Kightly ... and possibly Mujangi Bia for back-up.
Southbank60
And if Bia gets injured give poor Mouyokolo a game- seems to have some pace, a bargain at a few million pounds in fact! It has become practically impossible to stamp a valuation on a player any more; the Torres/Carroll transfers underlining this better than ever. Some of these clubs will never learn and it seems money available is equal to studipity. I said about a week ago that since returning from England duty all Jarvis spoke about the experience improving him as a player, hoping it helps the club as a whole and opens the door for some of his team mates. He has always shown great loyalty and will run himself into the ground for us, so tack a few million on for character. Who would want to see him playing in the Championship? He proved he could do that 3 years ago and what player would get his first England call up, and then accept it might be his last for two years. With one foot in the door, both actually he now has to set his sights on nailing a place in the finals should England get there. The one variable above all others that will directly affect the offers on the table will of course be what division we are in next season because that I think will make his mind up for him. If we are relegated we can beat the drum and say we dont need to sell but he belongs in the Premiership. From some initial annoyance when Mick admitted the player would go if we were relegated and someone came in with silly money, I think the present talk is safeguarding the club. If we do go down it will still cost a lot of money for this player- if we manage to stay up on the other hand I don't think Jarvis will want to move, and if clubs are coming in for him, and as a club we prove insistent on our continued development we can and will hold out for more. If the latter is the situation then I think we are talking 12 million and upwards for sure. If he did end up at Liverpool for example and prove himself an England regular then he would be worth twice as much in 2 or 3 years. Ultimately this points directly back to the inpending disaster relegation would bring because if Jarvis leaves, so will................... I can name at least 8. Bring on Saturday. Maintaining the faith. Come on Wolves.

So am I, though some doubt it!
