'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McCarthy's hands off warning falls on deaf ears

It would appear that Wolves gaffer Mick McCarthy's hands-off warning to Liverpool has fallen on deaf ears with Aston Villa now reportedly interested in Jarvis.

The Mirror newspaper suggest that unpopular Villa boss Gerard Houllier is set to make a £8 million bid to Wolves in the summer to take Matt Jarvis to Villa Park to replace Ashley Young, who apparently wants to leave the club.

Ashley Young looks set for a move to either Liverpool or Manchester United and Houllier believes Jarvis is the perfect replacement, despite McCarthy making it perfectly clear only a day ago that he is not for sale, even if we were to be relegated this season.

'There is no reason at all why we have to sell anybody.' McCarthy told the Birmingham Mail this week.

He added: 'If we did it would be after discussions between Steve Morgan and Jez Moxey and myself.

'But we don`t want to sell and there`s no reason why we should under any circumstances.'

Vital Wolves Comment: £8million would be a little under valuation for my liking, if we were to sell and this is obviously hypothetically as I see no reason not too as we will not going down, then £10million should surely be a more realistic figure?

Liverpool I could understand him wanting a move too, but Villa? A team in terminal decline only a couple of points ahead of us?? We'll be finishing ahead of them next season without a shadow of a doubt.

That's if we stay up, Wolf Man. Oh dear! I am being negative again.

... and, of course, if AV do too!

We will stay up, in fact we'll finish ahead of Villa this season and next.

If the Great Pretender over at Villa Park has his eyes on Jarvis maybe he can speak with whoever is his new chairman next season, because if he is still in charge at Villa I will be amazed. They were probably two big players from challenging the top four when they bottled it, lost the manager who had taken them to three 6th place finishes and now look at them. This summer three of their existing names will be leaving- I would say their position reflects this rather than the quality they have at the club because they have plenty. They lost a very good manager and appointed the wrong one in his place. Liverpool put their thinking cap on and realized a manager was not working when they fired clever clogs Roy. Has he done well at Albion? Yes. Was he doing well at Liverpool? No. When we ran the Survival Series Villa were first to respond and whilst I was taken by their troubles I was still surprised by the level of feelings against the manager when we went there. I would prefer of course both of us to remain in the Premier League but the general discord of others leaves several escape routes open rather than 4 or 5 scrapping it out. Okay, this went into relegation talk. Let's deal with bids if and when they arrive in the summer. If we are relegated it is a non starter and fair play to him. He proved himself in the Championship 3 years ago, he should be concentrating on the finals if England make it, not lining up against the bargain bucket.

8 millions ? Thats an insult ! 10 millions ? Thats an bargain ! Considering that Liverpool splashed 35 for Caroll, Jarvis is realistically worth 20 - 25 millions !

Wolves are staying up and Jarvis is staying put.
