Wolves will go down if we don't improve

Coming off the back of four games unbeaten, this recent run of form is quite baffling.

We should have turned a corner, we should have pushed on for more points, we certainly shouldn't have come away from games like Newcastle and Everton with heavy defeats in the manner in which they came.

"We were pretty amateurish. It felt at times like we weren`t good enough.

"We were all over the places at times - the defending as a team - not just the defenders - wasn`t good enough. We wouldn`t win a Championship game playing like that.' Karl Henry told the Express & Star after the 3-0 defeat to Everton.

He continued: "Performing and defending in that manner isn`t going to keep us up.

"That was as disappointing a performance from us this season."

A defeat and a win, would have been more than acceptable, even a couple of draws, we won't win every game, but we should at least be competing and over the past two games there has been little evidence of this.

Vital Wolves Comment: At least this drop in form has come now and the other sides around us haven't capitalised.

We are only one point from safety, six points from Fulham, Stoke and Birmingham and we'd be looking quite comfortable I would guess.

It is inexplicable and can't be put down to the loss of Doyle. We've played well without him before. At least, we have sufficient players with the requisite skills to cover for him. Perhaps, the effect is a psychological one, the injury to such a talismanic figure magnifying the impact of his absence out of all proportion. As I and others have commented in other threads, the players looked mervous and tense in the Everton match and this is no frame of mind to go into six of the most crucial games of the season. I have often accused the team and management of over-confidence and complacency and now we are seeing just how much resilience they do possess. It's for this reason that I would argue for the returm of Craddock - and even Hahnemann- because they are leaders and will stiffen the resolve of the others. Clearly, we need to change our full backs too. While Elokobi has always looked suspect, Foley's wobble is more worrying. I would replace them with Mancienne and Stearman.

Agree, we need the experience in the back. Hopefully Jody and Marcus arent out of match fitness...... they surely played at least for the reserves, no ?

SOUTHBANK ! SOUTHBANK ! You speak the truth my good man. Craddock should have been back the minute he could walk and Hahnemannn should never have been replaced. I understand that Hammil has been bought in to replace Jarvis being sold, but Hunt hasnt been himself and Kightly is FAR from match ready. Then there's been the persisting with Ward all season long, either at the back or as a striker, Im expecting him as one of the commentators next, no contingency bought in for van Damme in the transfer and ludicrous substitutions of bringing extra strikers on when we are getting pummelled at the back... Mick, you've shown your INEPTITUDE YET AGAIN... and guess whatm we're stuck with ya for another bloody season

Team spirit is excellent even among us fans, I see. Southbank is at last in accord with me regarding the re-introduction of Jody and Stearman moving to FB. Ad Mant argues on the same lines, though I see no reason to replace Hennessey, nor to disagree as to Ward. Granted, it IS black at the moment, there can be no denying. But do not forget the gold. 'Out of darkness cometh light'. Only, may that darkness be not of the Championship, for experience teaches that one never knows how long the night is there.

Well, lovesW, I like to think that I am flexible enough to adjust my opinion to changing circumstances (upon mature reflection, of course, rather than as a knee-jerk reaction).

You like to think and I see you are, to your credit, Southbank. Reflecting on your comment, had I said: 'Southbank and myself are at last....', no hint of 'I said it before' would have been conveyed, which was not the idea intended at all, just that our views, along with those of most others, converge. It could have been the other way round, it would have made no diffference to the point I was making. Just the way I put it - ah, words!

We do not have a striker apart from Doyle who is of the right type to play 451. 442 means we have one less man in midfield, and our defence is not good enough to cope without help from the midfield. i like Gued, but playing him in a 442 when just back from injury....not sure how much sense that made....

Spot on, Old Gold and your point about Guedioura was one I made in my report of the Everton match. He played well and tried hard but he would operate better in a 4-5-1 formation.
