Yesterday I stated that: 'We have to take advantage of this game in hand
'A draw will be enough to get us out of the relegation places, something that will help to heap pressure on the other teams around us. A win will obviously be even better.
'But a defeat will be a big set-back, it won't be over by any means, but our one advantage over the others will have been wasted.'
The players were all too aware of the situation, perhaps the occasion got too them, but surely if we're going to go down we should be going down fighting and that was the biggest disappointment of the night.
Not many teams go to Stoke and get anything from the game, they are now seven games unbeaten, with a win percentage of 53% this season, but I bet most come away registering more than 1 shot on target...not us though.
That's the killer, if we went there and lost and put in a performance I would be my usual ever optimistic self. But this performance lacked anything that offered any realistic reason why I should remain optimistic for the final few games.
'That's as poor as we've played this season,' Mick McCarthy told Wolves Official Website and it's hard to argue against it.
He continued: 'It's a difficult time when you're in the bottom three playing against a good side who have just got to Wembley and are playing very well.
'But however we play we have to compete better than that and I'm disappointed with that - it's not good.
Vital Wolves Comment: With four games remaining, this season is far from over. We remain just one point from safety, with a comparable goal difference to the others.
We can get out of this, but this game has to act as a huge kick up the backside for this team.
We are fast running out of time to string a couple of results together, we can still do it, but Mick has to get a reaction from his men to prevent the fat lady from singing.
