Goal Difference! Like goldust!

My main concern now, apart from how we are playing is the goal difference.

Of the bottom four there is only one goal in it so that could go anywhere, but Blackburns is far better some 7 or 8 goals better, at this stage of the season that's like having an extra point.

I think of all the ways to get relegated, going down on goal difference would be the worst scenario.

I think a draw for Blues will be more or less enough, a win for Wolves would narrow the gap and put Blues under a lot of pressure.

Lets hope its another good away day in Birmingham!

It's 3.23 pm and it looks like goal difference is not going to be a factor ... Blackburn and Wigan are both 1-0 up. It's going to be a long weekend.

Last time we didn't play on the Saturday, we were lucky. Results elswehere put our fate in our hands. Well, we know what happened to that. Today's results make it imperative that we defeat Birmingham tomorrow. If we do that - and WHU lose to MC tomorrow - we will be outside the bottom three (I know it seems unbelievable). Even so, given the results our rivals, Blackburn, Blackpool and Wigan, have been achieving against teams who have beaten us, I'll believe it when I see it and will not be holding my breath. Yes Peter results by our rivals have improved,Wigan and Blackpool drawing and Blackburn beating Bolton. That is huge for Blackburn, we could do nothing home and away against Bolton so well done to them.Doesnt matter what West Ham do tomorrow,if we win we are out of the bottom three anyway!.I think personally tomorrow is win or bust,a point is no good at this stage we need to win otherwise I fear we are history.Other teams are going to grind out results so it gets to a stage where it does'nt matter what you do!,its not enough, thats why tomorrow a win gets us 17th place and puts pressure on others for a change. Can we do it?I honestly dont know, confidence must be low,but so too must be Blues!,I really hope we can but I do fear for us.That Blackburn result really has narrowed things up,Sunderland is another huge game, they got murdered today at home but I think they have enough. If its a draw tomorrow, I think we are looking at not three from five but three from four!,the plot thickens, over to you lovesW.

Since you insist, Crete. I am at the stage where I am saying to myself: all that matters are the results now, all comment is futile. But, yes, just as you say, all along. I do think we will see at least the fighting spirit seen against MU, Spurs, Chelsea. Blackburn winning is a blow. They have been my top candidates for relegation. Now a win tomorrow and another in the direct encounter won't be enough to overtake them, for they will get the one point from the three games, and their goal difference is superior, so we will have to get at least a point from the WBA game too, if the Sunderland game is not to come to assume paramount importance. Sunderland, McCarthy, relegation ...hm

The Blackburn result was the real sickener, especially as reports suggested that Bolton were by far the better team. Why can't we hold on to a one goal lead like that? And if Blackpool managed to draw with Stoke, how come we couldn't manage it? Such comparisons make me realise just how fragile is our hold on the PL for, as Crete Wolf says, the other sides are more capable than we are of grinding out a result. This is what really shocks me.
Southbank60
No one should pretend to have the answers to those questions, and to others like how come we can match and even beat 4 of the top five teams and fail miserably against the lesser sides, for there simply are no answers. Nor do I pretend, for the same reason, to have the answer as to why we are staying up, but we are staying up.

LovesW: I see that today the pope is conducting a ceremony of beatification, a step towards the canonization of his predecessor, John Paul II. If Wolves win today, that will set MM on the same path. He would then become a fully fledged saint, should we avoid relegation, because it would be a bona fide miracle.
Southbank60
Well, with them it's all in the family. In MM's case , I think Queen Mab should officiate!
