All these so called 'denials' that players are not for sale are in some ways a way of saying that in fact they are for sale at the right price!
Today we have Merlin saying in the national press that two in particular are 'not for sale'.
Jarvis and Doyle have been highlighted by Merlin to be deemed unavailable, I believe the opposite is true and this is a way of drumming up interest and keeping their names in the spotlight so to speak.
It looks like the decision has been made to sacrifice these two players and raise some revenue not only for defensive players and a midfielder, but also maybe another striker, hopefully a goalscorer to play up front alongside Fletcher.
I think the argument that Doyle is a good player but not a goalscorer is a good one and that if you cannot play him upfront alongside a goalscorer then the system has to be changed or the personnel have to be changed.
We have tried several times to change the the system so I believe the time is now upon us to change personnel.
Jarvis as well, as we have said before I think could go if a big money/exchange bid comes in, we have a lot of wide players, what we need is goals! So we have the supply, what we need is the end product.
This is bound to start of some controversy and debate but I think a change of direction will be good as a whole for the club and a stronger midfield and defence will open up the chance to play with two strikers.
What sort of money would they both generate?
I would think around £25 million for the two plus our existing funds would give us a good go at the transfer market and hopefully quality over quantity will prevail this time!
Will we start the season with both these players? I have my doubts and must stress that this is purely my opinion and I will look forward to what you the members think about this subject, remembering that to buy enough players turn things around will require a substantial sum and it has to come from somewhere!!
