Wolves In The Shop Window?

Wolves In The Shop Window?

All these so called 'denials' that players are not for sale are in some ways a way of saying that in fact they are for sale at the right price!

Today we have Merlin saying in the national press that two in particular are 'not for sale'.

Jarvis and Doyle have been highlighted by Merlin to be deemed unavailable, I believe the opposite is true and this is a way of drumming up interest and keeping their names in the spotlight so to speak.

It looks like the decision has been made to sacrifice these two players and raise some revenue not only for defensive players and a midfielder, but also maybe another striker, hopefully a goalscorer to play up front alongside Fletcher.

I think the argument that Doyle is a good player but not a goalscorer is a good one and that if you cannot play him upfront alongside a goalscorer then the system has to be changed or the personnel have to be changed.

We have tried several times to change the the system so I believe the time is now upon us to change personnel.

Jarvis as well, as we have said before I think could go if a big money/exchange bid comes in, we have a lot of wide players, what we need is goals! So we have the supply, what we need is the end product.

This is bound to start of some controversy and debate but I think a change of direction will be good as a whole for the club and a stronger midfield and defence will open up the chance to play with two strikers.

What sort of money would they both generate?

I would think around £25 million for the two plus our existing funds would give us a good go at the transfer market and hopefully quality over quantity will prevail this time!

Will we start the season with both these players? I have my doubts and must stress that this is purely my opinion and I will look forward to what you the members think about this subject, remembering that to buy enough players turn things around will require a substantial sum and it has to come from somewhere!!

MM gets asked a question and he gives an answer. He has not deliberately placed an advert in the papers saying players are "not for sale, (wink wink, they are really!!!)" I would imagine that professional Management and Administrators within the game are fully aware of all players that may or may not be available? If they want Jarvis or Doyle, they don't need to read the papers to be drawn into making offers for them. As for selling player, you would hope we don't but if by slightly weakening one position we can strengthen 2 or 3 other, then its an option that any club in our position would have to consider. We do indeed have several wingers but whether Kightly will regain his form / ability remains to be seen. Has Hammill fallen out with MM - he has disappeared? Doyle was possibly our mosy important player when he was fit, but then when he was given his chance, Fletcher showed he can score goals. But was it a case of we HAD to win therefore we attacked more, whereas earlier in the season we were more guarded? Had Doyle had a workhorse like Ward up front with him, would he have got more goals? Tough decisions lie ahead but that is what they are paid the big bucks for.

grrrrrrr 25 for Jarvis and Doyle TOGETHER ??? What a bargain ! Hey, dont you want to sell me your house ? Btw, Doyle is a goalscorer, you just have to let him play it ! I dont wonder he doesnt score often, when most of the time he has to help midfielders and defenders do their job !

I can see both sides of the argument, as set out above. However, it had crossed my mind, on reading MM's comments about MJ and KD, that he might entertain daft bids for the two. If push came to shove and we had to raise a lot of money to buy defenders, I could countenance the sale of Jarvis, while noting Ralphdog's words of caution. For me, the sale of Doyle is non-negotiable, having seen his heroics as the lone front-runner on so many occasions. Surely, we will still play 4-5-1 against top teams away from home and in such situations Doyle is irreplacable. He would also score more goals if operating in a 4-4-2 system, secured by a solid defence, the real question mark in the equation and one that has to be sorted out. Once Doyle is fit, I would like to see how he and Fletcher work in tandem. Only if the partnership does not gell and the need to strengthen our defence remains does MM conceivably have a decision to make in line with Crete Wolf's hypothetical scenario. Without wishing to be unrealistic about the fee that Doyle could command in such a situation, it would have to be astronomical. Even contemplating it makes me feel like the Cold War stategists, who thought the unthinkable when considering the effects of a nuclear war.

I was sceptical when I read your blog, but not 10 minutes later I read an article where MM was lauding Fletch and Hunt as the two stand out players in the team. Interesting? I think 25 million is a massive over estimation though, Doyler may be pushing towards 10 and Jarvo 6 or 7? I share the opinion of the other contributors - Doyler is our best striker (if not player) and Jarvo has way more quality than Hunt, Hammill or (proven at this level) Kites. What concerns me more is the signal that such a sale would send out. Would Roger Johnson or Upson or Gardner or Dunne (?!) want to join a team that sells it's best players? I reckon not! Whatsmore, if there's so much dosh floating around that we can rebuild Molineux, there must be enough for 3 or 4 new players. Otherwise we'll have the best ground in the championship...

Wandererscarf: worrying but valid points about Fletcher and Hunt and attitude of potential incoming defenders; underestimation of the value of MJ and KD post-Carroll (and to us); I'm sitting on the fence re: MJ and SH as the latter has recently gone up in my estimation; and wonky reasoning (unfortunately) regarding allocation of money for player and ground improvements.

From what i have been told the 16 million being spent on the North Bank has come out of Morgans own pocket as he has only paid 15 million so far into the cllub and the rest on transfers has paid for itself with campaigns in the prem , I would be shocked if we did not spend 15 million in the transfer market this term ! , Jarvis is at least 10 million and in realistic terms so is Doyle but because the way the market is and players being sold for 3 times what they are worth then surely we should be looking for 12-15 for Jarvis and 20 minimum for Doyle ! but as most of us have said ideally we dont want to lose anyone :-)

John wolf you are a miserable *****. These are debates, theres precious little going on the tx market - so a lot of the articles are going to be repetitive or outright hogwash... are you going to have a go at every blogger who tries to fill the gap. Probably.

The trick is not to rise to the bait and let these individuals get fed up when no one bothers to respond to them. These blogs are as stated by us before just different persons points of view and an attempt to start some debate on the players and club we all love. What I hope we do not want to see it become is the same hogwash that appears on a certain local newspapers blog site where it most times resorts to trading insults when most of them could do with learning to spell first!.Answers on a post card please to Wolfy!!!!UTW.

Everyone is for sale at the right price. We do not have to sell cheaply as we do not have debts and both have long enough left on their contracts. If anyone came in with an offer of silly money, would we sell.....of course we would
