Wolves shift focus?

Wolves have denied making a 6million bid for Birmingham defender Roger Johnson.

Reports emerged yesterday that an offer had been made and subsequently rejected.

Various newspapers have claimed that Wolves had approached Birmingham and the Shropshire Star have suggested that Brum have slapped a 14million asking price on the 28-year-old.

That ridiculous amount if true is likely put off Mick McCarthy (or at least I hope it would) and reports suggest our Mick has shifted his focus onto Reading defender Matt Mills.

With Reading failing to win promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs, McCarthy looks set to raid Reading once again.

A more realistic 4million has been suggested for the 24-year-old, however he doesn't really have the Premier League experience that other apparent targets Johnson or Matt Upson has.

Vital Wolves Comment: Would signing Mills be enough? Or should McCarthy shell out the big bucks for an experienced defender?

I think it is time to spend the big bucks. We need two premiership centre backs, a left back and a midfielder. Wolves need to start competing with the big boys or look forward to another Survival Sunday!

Strange, I was going to suggest MM take a look at MM ! I think Mills has the ability to make the step-up to prem footie. The times I have watched him he has impressed me very much. Johnson may be a good player but not at that price, Upson would cost a lot less but I bet is wage demands would be high and I think he would prefer to stay in London, which QPR offer.

NO NO NO... How many times have we tried to fill those Uber important Rear guard positions. F*** me, time after time, scooping unproven players from lower divisions are why WE CONSTANTLY GIVE AWAY FREE KICKS AND LATE GOALS !!!! 14 mil (even 6 mil) is a bloody joke for Johnson, but Upson has the experience, andI think in a steady ship (look at all the crap flying around at West Ham for the past couple years) might get him back to form. He's on a free, with wages we could afford until he decides to retire NO NO NO - and what the hell is Mick doin reportedly looking at their striker too - what the hell do we need another striker for. Lets see how things pan out - its all rumour and hearsay at the moment, But Mick will have a mutiny on his hands if atleast 2 defensive poisiotns arent filled with COMPETENT EXPERIENCED PLAYERS

What are you on! ad mant, last time you said it was 50/50 for/against Mick, wich is crap, when it is nearer 80% for 20% (like you) against, now you are saying if MM doesn't do this or the other he will have a mutiny on his hands? who by! you the minority of 1. Do you think Mick cares a toss what you think, we "need" another striker! a ball winning midfielder who can win the ball then spray the passes around, a CB + LB, has for players unproven from lower divisions - well that is the biggest load of b*&&*$%s yet, there are many very good players that could make the step up. Anyway let's hope Mick does it his way and not the "fans" way because we will be trouble.
johnwolf
why do we need another striker johnwolf ? SEB VOKES WARD on the bench, a couple real talents in the academy, Fletch and Doyle on the pitch... do you just like arguing...? If we do little (or nothing) in the transfer to stop the leaking of goals, and by proxy, points, then it stands to reason the same peopple who were crying out for this to be resolved last season will be even more incensed this. I did mention, though you choose to have "selective reading" that this is all early days, and rumours will be rife, we just dont want to make the mistakes of last year. Now, this is an open forum, for EVERYONE to air their views, and I have little interest in debating with you personally as you are nothing more than abrasive and abusive cretin and only ever seem to come on to have a go at other peoples opinions. I neednt tell you what I think of yours.
Ad Mant
He probably is one of the better defenders in the championship but Ad Mant is correct in saying we need proven players at the top level , Mills is a ball winner but ideally id want to sign him if we already had an experienced settled back 4 already in place and for him to come in and compete for a place where as we need players to come straight in , if the rumour of us bidding 6 million for Johnson is untrue then i doubt this is true either , only thing with McCarthy is he prefers young players we do need a couple of the age of /30/31/32 players to come in at the back and Upson and Johnson would be ideal but lets just see what we sign and take it from there , I'd be more worried J Lloyd samuel is available on a free hahahaha !
ODDJOB79
Johnson and Dann were from the lower divisions. And at that lower level Matt Mills is probably more proven than they were two years ago. Matt is the next Roger Johnson, and I say snap him up. No use humming and hahing about players we will eventually be outbid for by Liverpool or Arsenal. Go get Matt before he's snapped up by Swansea or QPR! Could make the difference between staying up and going down! What a pity we didn't get Johnson and/or Dann two years ago. Let's not miss the next one!
