McCarthy Gets The Nod

Mick McCarthy has been appointed manager at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The former Ireland boss takes over from Glenn Hoddle who resigned a little over two weeks ago and inherits a depleted squad badly in need of extra faces with just over 2 weeks to go before the start of the season.

If McCarthy can emulate his 2004/5 season where he took a Sunderland side in a similar position as Wolves are today into The Premiership as Championship Title winners his appointment will be seen as a resounding success for Jez Moxey.

Judgement on McCarthy prior to a ball being kicked would be harsh and unfair, and as with all new incoming managers, a honeymoon period will inevitably ensue where McCarthy outlines his"bold new vision" for "a great sleeping giant ".

Converting that to points on the board and consistently scoring three of them is another matter. Mick McCarthy has broad shoulders, and they will need to be to bear the burden of being in charge at Wolves.

Could have been worse, could have been O'Leary.

Did well for Sunderland in the Championship but had no money to spend in the Prem. Just be glad you didn't get O'Leary. I wouldn't even wish him on the Blues...well, maybe
