7million offer made for Johnson?

Wolves have made an offer to Birmingham for Roger Johnson, if agreed it will equal the club-record fee paid for Steven Fletcher a year ago.

Last summer we splashed out around 7million on striker Fletcher, the year before we paid around 6.5million for fellow striker Kevin Doyle.

However it isn't clear if the offer will be enough, with Birmingham according to the E&S demanding 10million for the 28-year-old.

Reading`s Matt Mills has also been receiving attention from our Mick, with another reported offer made for the 24-year-old.

Local papers believe Mills will leave Reading for less than 3.5million, while the E&S believe we have offered 3million, so a deal could be close if Mills rejects a new contract offer of 30,000-a-week to remain at the Championship outfit.

Bet he ends up at Villa Park along with Foster and Dann.

As the transfer market hots up, it illustrates the point I made in an earlier thread that the close season is in its own way as tense and exciting as the playing season. In some respects, it is even more nerve-wracking because the denouement usually takes longer. I'd never make a poker player or a street trader because I'd be worried that I would lose out. At the moment, I am fretting about Johnson and Mills.

Whoever comes into the squad, in 8 weeks' time it will all be about formation and tactics again.

Danns in talks with Stoke , Villa hardly have any money to spend ! , I fancy our chances with Johnson .

One thing I am glad to see is that we are smoking the situation out. Funny how Blues have sliced 4 million off the asking price. There must be a computer in the kitchen at St. Andrews that the kitchen lady keeps an eye on. These red numbers are multiplying by the second, we must sell someone- even she is on ten grand a week. Poor Blues. We will see now how many clubs are actually intrested in buying this player and that will shape our chances of signing him. I would go upto 8.5 for this player; by the middle of next week otherwise move on before the rest have signed elsewhere.

They'll have come on a bit more if they land Dann. Arsenal and Liverpool, what happened to them?I'm sure it's the players agents that start the stories about the big boys being interested. No offence to Stoke, because I think they've done brilliantly, but are we totally out of the hunt for him if Stoke aren't?

Stoke are a more established prem club than us at the mo and he might prefer to play for a team with a long throw so he can get forward a lot more as he is immense in the air but would he get in , im pretty sure Huth and Shawcross is his first choice partnership , just saying those 2 names and looking at our defenders it proves how far ahead of us they are in defensive positions , there home form is very good too , i cant stand Stoke personally but what they do they do very well , i would imagine 90% of clubs would say the 1 team they hate going to visit is the one at the Brittania , i heard a rumour that we offered 20 million plus Berra and Blake for Johnson Danns and Foster !!!!

You make good points about Stoke, Oddjob. On the one hand, Johnson might prefer to sign for the better team, as reflected in this season's performances. However, as you argue, he has less chance of getting a game there than he has with us. Certainty of selection is a point in our favour.
