Wolves get impatient

The transfer poker game that was spoken about yesterday looks set to come to a conclusion, but who will fold first? Wolves, Birmingham or Reading?

Over the past few weeks we have been heavily linked with moves for both Birmingham's Roger Johnson and Reading's Matt Mills.

We have according to reports offered around 7million for Johnson and a further 3million for Mills, but neither bids have so far been accepted.

Birmingham apparently want closer to 10million, while Reading were believed to want around 4million.

Obviously these targets haven't been officially confirmed, but it would seem that Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey is not willing to budge any further on our offers and has threatened to take our bids off the table.

"We have got feelers out to a number of clubs. So we either start getting serious now or we move on.' Moxey told Express & Star.

He added: "We are now telling clubs to make a decision. We need to get things done and what we`re saying is 'if you don`t want to do business, we`ll forget it and move on.`

Vital Wolves Comment: It would seem our users would prefer us to move on to Sebastien Bassong, who currently leads our front page poll on who should be should be wolves' no.1 target to bring in this summer.

Do you agree, or should Wolves spend over the odds to get in Mick McCarthy's own number one targets?

Has the Konchesky rumour gone cold...? If we are going to splash out I'd rather not see brum get a penny - plus we've already done business with Spurs...

What i dont get is both Mills and Johnson are right footed where as Bassong is left footed , surely we dont need 2 right footed centre halves , every one we have besides Berra is right footed where as Bassong is left so thats why i believe that link more

Good point, Oddjob ... but shouldn't all PL players be amphibious?

What like a frog you mean Peter?.

Mr. Morgan's latest 'Building on the nucleus' is exactly my perspective of the whole of this, put much better than I could ever manage, needless to say. In the thread previous to this one I made some points. They will be clearer to everyone now, the main point being that though a couple of additions to the squad would be more than desireable, it is not absolutely vital to acquire a particular player or two, most certainly not at prices judged to be inflated. The core is there, and, moreover, has now 2 years' PL experience to its credit. It is a matter of strenghtening a position or two, but not at any cost, the long-term aim being to transform the Club, gradually and sensibly, into an established PL side. In reply to your question, Akela, no way should JM spend over the odds, even if no more additions to the squad be forthcoming - barring a similar or longer injury list than last season's, I say we are in for a better showing this time around.

Remember England V Germany when we got battered ( The Lampard goal that never was game ) , they played John Terry right side of defence to make way for Upson and Terry had the worst game i have ever seen him have , Alan Hansen said it , he said that people think just because your a centre half you should be able to play either side , can right backs play at left back and be equally as good ? very rarely , its natural that if your left footed you play left side and same for the right side no matter what level you play at ! , I dont like the words additions or squad players , we need mainstay players who play every premiership game , and Johnson Dunne or Bassong are the only 3 that fit the bill in my book and they are not going to be cheap , Mills might be a great signing but its a massive gamble to put all our faith in an untested premiership player , we have only spent 5 million so surely if we spent 18 million in the previous 2 seasons we can afford to spend 8 million on Bassong or Johnson and 3 on Mills ? , that still leaves a couple million for a left back or if we get Bertrand for a season loan or 2 million for a 4th striker !

Oddjob: here, you make an even more persuasive argument for buying Bassong. It convinces me. You also seem to be edging towards paying a little more for the right players than you were at the beginning of the discussion of this particular theme.

No i just think that Bassong is worth 8-9 million theres a difference , Blues over value Johnson and i dont think we should pay 10 million , where as Bassong at 8 million is worth it , hes a champions league player who most Spurs fans dont want to leave as alongside Dawson was very good indeed because 1 was left sided and 1 was right and both are very good in all aspects of defending , Johnson dont get me wrong i would take at 7 million and i'll hold my hands up and say i said even at 8-8.5 at first but ive had time to think and hes part of a relegated side , he cant be allowed to be worth that much , I think 7 is generous but Bassong is definately worth it , you break your record for a player who raises eye brows and makes you think cant wait to see him play for us , I dont get that for Johnson but i would for Bassong !

This is sometimes where a little lack of ambition can sometimes come back and bite you,we were originally after Johnstone and Dann when they were championship players,we lost out over wages now Dann in particular is worth a lot more.I know we have to draw the line over transfer fees but surely if you are signing what you believe to be a good player with a lot of potential then its worth paying them a bit more and especially if they are on a bosnan. Its a swings and roundabouts argument but sometimes as the saying goes 'you've got to speculate to accumalate'.UTW.

Latest.........Daniel Sturridge !!!!!going for 6 million ???that sounds like a bargain! anyone confirm reports that Stoke are after him at this price?.
Crete Wolf
Never in a million years will Chelsea allow him to leave for that , utter rubbish !
ODDJOB79
Qoute fro todays papers 'West Brom boss Roy Hodgson has joined the race to sign Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge. Albion face competition from Bolton, Newcastle and Stoke, who are weighing up 6million bids for the England Under-21 star. '
