Mills to force move out of Reading?

With Wolves attempts to sign Reading defender Matt Mills in deadlock, the defender could be set to try and force his way out of his current club.

Yesterday the Express & Star reported that 24-year-old Mills who is Reading's captain, is set to meet with Reading manager Brian McDermott today.

The E&S believe Mills is settled at Reading with one year of his 20,000 a week contract remaining, however the lure of the Premier League with not only ourselves but also Blackburn and Stoke is too great for him and he could attempt to 'engineer his move away'.

The Daily Mail have either picked up on that and just recycled the news for this mornings paper, or there have been further developments, because they report that Mills will 'request a move', which to me sounds like possibly handing in a transfer request.

The Mail also report that the deal would be worth 3.8million, however it still isn't clear who Mills favours in regards to Stoke, Blackburn and us.

OK, guys, putting WW loyalty to one side (difficult, I know) which club would you choose, if you were Mills? Personally, I think we have a chance, even though our record against Stoke and Blackburn was not that good last season. We have better facilities and, with the development of the stadium, a clear indication that we mean business in the PL. We also have ex-Reading players in the squad, ones of top PL qualitiy.

I always worry when we are pitted against other teams in negotiations... history has taught us that we are not prepared to spend. Forget the "we wont be fleeced" mantra for a minute and realise that we can forget any aspirations of a 442, as well as seriously jeopardise our chances of survival if we dont get at least 2 quality defenders in the transfer ... Pushing the boat out a little once in a while may very well be necessary. Do you hear that Moxey.
Ad Mant
Well, that's dented my enthusiasm, Ad Mant ... because you're right!
Southbank60
20k a week for his first season as a regular in the championship hahaha yeah right !!! , Im pretty sure we will get 2 centre halves or just 1 and a full back but obviously things aren't moving quickly for 1 reason or another , none of us know the inns n outs of it all , but we have done well in the transfer market and i expect us to do so again , just not as quickly !
ODDJOB79
Oh and Ad Mant get 4-4-2 out your head , Arsenal , United , Chelsea , City , no one plays it no more , Spurs are the only top side that does ! its not the most favoured system anymore !
ODDJOB79
Now the E&S reckon it's between us and Leicester! From the likes of Blackburn & Stoke........to Leicester? I get the feeling that we may have been in the driving seat, after all, from the start with this one.Hard to know who's spreading more rumours, the players agents or the selling clubs.
all4divisions
Oh so pernickety oddjob... you know i was referring to being able to play 2 upfront, instead of swelling the midfield for cover.
AdMant
Still think its going down the risky road of unproven premiership players, lot of money, bit like buying Berra from Hearts!,I'd like to add a couple of more mill on and get the proven thing.
Crete Wolf
It's a question of weighing up our experience of Berra against Birmingham's experience of Johnson and Dann.
Southbank60
Well, I popped onto Vital Liverpool asking for opinion on Konchesky and got nothing. May aswell drop by the Reading site and see what they have to say as no one knows better than them. I would like to think we have reached a point where most targets would choose us over Blackburn but with their PL status established Stoke unfortunately, especially with the lure of European football are likely to beat us to signings unless perhaps some of our players are on good terms with the player and have a word. The Express & Star switching from Blackburn and Stoke battling for his signature one day, then Leicester the next is just the latest reason not to take much interest in whatever they print and simply play wait and see. The issue continues though- we have a very clear strategy where we will not be pushed around in the market but how much is too much? If we are prepared to pay 3.5 and they will only drop to 3.7 is that too much? Are we really being mugged? Could the player prove the next Dann or Johnson and be worth at least double in a years time? None of us wants to see the club get 'mugged' but the clock is ticking and sooner rather than later players are going to end up elsewhere and we are going to sign a couple of free transfer veterans. I would love to see Bassong arrive. Elsewhere Evans at United would be a great addition.
New York City Wolf
To be fair even if we do not make any more signings I still think we'll be ok. We survived the hardest ever PL season and I personally think we'll ***** it this upcoming season, new additions or not. Yes we need to tighten up in defence, thats obvious. But at times last season we defended well, big George at times was a colossus, Stears pacey and composed and Berra playing the JT role and throwing himself in front of everything. For me it is just inconsistancy, the players can do it, they've shown us. But they have to do it every game and not play like a bunch of ****s!!
BIG TASTY
I will say that elsewhere, as a few of us predicted, Birmingham all setting themselves up for potential disaster by refusing to budge on their players. Reports vary on how much was offered but sounds like Stoke have had a double bid for Dann and Jerome turned down. Apparently, when Pulis said he wanted a new defender the players said they wanted a new tea lady.
New York City Wolf
Would Mills want to go to Stoke where he couldn't be certain of first team football?
Southbank60
Mouyokolo gone , so lets hope that means players are nearly set too arrive . otherwise it makes no sense to let him leave !
ODDJOB79
I thought that too, Oddjob. In a way I am sorry to see Mouyokolo go out on loan because I felt that, if he were fit and had a good close season, he might do alright. However, as you argue, it suggests that we are going to bring in two other central defenders. Of course, he could come back more strongly the following year but with a bit of luck by then it might be too late.
Southbank60
big tasty what are you smoking????? if we dont strengthen mate we are going to get left behind and made to pay by being relegated next season.we managed to survive last season by some well favoured luck, but to be honest it could have been any of the bottom 6 up to blackburn that went down. Did u not witness the the hammering by blackburn we recieved on the final day. When uve got our defence making 40 year old brett emerton look like zinadine zedan in his prime, you cant honestly say we will be arite if we dont strengthen. BRING IN J EVANS, ROGER JOHNSON AND BASSONG I SAY. FORGET MATT MILLS , HE DIDNT STOP SWANSEA BANGING THEM TO REACH THE PREM.TO MUH OF A GAMBLE.
black daniels
oh and as far as mouyokolo is concerned thank god mick has seen the light and sent him on his way.i watched him play for hull when in the prem and thought then what a waste of space.dont know what mm was thinking when he bought him in.maybe he was smoking the same stuff big tasty has been!!! mm has got a good eye for attackers bu as far as defenders go he needs to splash the cash on some real quality..........
black daniels
Black Daniel: if you saw Mouyokolo play badly for Hull, that's an important observation. He never played well for WW either but that was because he was never injury free or match fit. That might have been true at Hull too ... and, if he is injury prone, he is a liability. However, it's a shame because reports from France, as well as from Hull, suggested that he was a class player. If he had lived up to his billing (and had avoided injury), he might have partially solved our central defender problem. Now we will never know because, if he performs well in France, Sochaux will buy him. Clearly, at the moment, we cannot take the chance and we have to unload players.
Southbank60
Good point Banks on why he may go to Stoke, no promise of first team football but my thoughts on players chosing Stoke over us were based on a small piece recently where our new keeper was criticized by one of his old team mates who accused him of 'going for the money'- he argued the player is giving up the number one shirt that was his and his alone, to sit on the bench for a club that will finish around the same place at Swansea. At first I thought the comment was perhaps made out of spite perhaps but this time last year, despite spending all that we did we remained amongst the favourites for relegation, and how close we came of course. Even if it is a bitter statement I think it reflects a general view that Wolves will struggle again, and unless we bring in three quality players opinion will not change. Personally I would not blame people for thinking we will struggle. We saw it with our own eyes last season- the likes of Johnson and Bassong are likely to cost around 8 million but they are of the quality we need if we are really going to improve. If we are not prepared to pay up, we will resort to signing the likes of Dunne and in my book that does not go hand in hand with the transfer policy we bleat on about and continuing to bring players in that will determine the clubs future over the next five years. I think this Mills saga has cat and mouse written all over it; do I think we will sign the player? I do. Perhaps then if we sign a quality left back the likes of Johnson and Bassong will see we are signing the right quality and will want to join. As things stand Mills wants PL football, and not a relegation battle. Bassong probably has it fairly decent down at Spurs so if he is going to move on he is not going to want to end up looking for another PL club this time next year. Hopefully a big signing will mark our cards and the next two will fall quickly into place.
New York City Wolf
Two quality defenders for 15-16 million and 4-5 million for a good left back.Funds for a another mid fielder can be generated from off loading unwanted players, simple!!.Unlike last close season ******footing around spending good money on untested players or sicknotes.Big tasty your ok,carry on smoking! Here's a thought Banksy,I dont think our business with Spurs is over!mmmmmmm, maybe a double signing !.Usually we have plenty of prem players over here on holiday but this year only Eto's been here !.Watch this space.Answers on a postage stamp to Wolfie.UTW.

Tilts cap. I actually 'expect' another player from Spurs and whilst Bassong would be the stand out considering our needs I was reading about the availability of Keane on Vital Spurs and due to one of their fans suggesting he may be returning home to his 'boyhood club' it got me scratching the barney. Mick did make a January move during our first season back if I am not mistaken and was managing Keane for Ireland so you never know. Considering there is nothing coming from the club on transfers who knows what they are upto. IF Robbie does sign he will have to scratch out 'Signing for Liverpool was always my dream' and 'I have always been a Celtic fan' then replace of course with some 'coming home' malarky. If the fella were to take a 50% pay cut I would bring him in- I say that whilst not even being able to figure where I would play him let alone Mick. He could be Mick's surprise/no surprise answer to the left back problem. Bring on the stick for that comment. I told you signings will reduce my boredom.

Black Dan i'm burning one down right now!! I'm hungry. Where did i leave my Ribena? Why is everyone staring at me? lol UTW!!!!
