Wolves linked with three defenders

Wolves linked with three defenders

Wolves have been linked with former Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate and West Ham defenders Matt Upson and James Tomkins over the weekend.

The newspapers know we are interested in strengthening the defence and after failing to bring Matt Mills to Molineux our Mick will obviously move onto new targets, but whether any of these rumours are more than just gossip remains to be seen.

31-year-old Woodgate is a free agent after being released by Spurs. On his day he is one of the best defenders in the country, but he's prone to injury and Spurs have clearly decided his best days are behind him so he would be a risk.

32-year-old Matthew Upson is also a free agent after letting his contract expire at West Ham. He in my opinion would be a fabulous capture as he would bring great experience to the defence and still has a few more years in him.

But 22-year-old Tomkins is probably the man who ticks more boxes when it comes to what we tend to look for. Obviously he's young, talented and with potential.

He can play at centre-back or right-back and is currently negotiating a new deal at Upton Park, if we could make a swoop then he could be a good prospect.

We got a far better defender in talks with us today in Johnson from Blues , we was never going to take Upson , his wage demands are far too much and many have said MM doesn't rate him anyways , also he very rarely signs 30plus in terms of age , Hammers are stuck with him and your another club guilty of over paying awful players , you all love Zola but he was just as bad paying 7 million for an overweight McCarthy , its just West Hams way of paying for names rather than ability , if it wasn't for your youth system you would be in league 1 !!!!! , and why dream on where Tomkins is concerned , we have a bigger history than you , we are premier league your not , we will have a far better stadium than you when completed , yes you have the olympic stadium but its not a football arena , you will be a million miles from the players and no player will want that , I like West Hams fans as you are loyal to the cause and true fans unlike Chelsea Spurs and Arsenal , but your another club guilty of thinking you deserve more than you do !!!

Oh and we was not in the bottom 4 the first season we came up , know your stuff before commenting , in 5 seasons he has performed mircales , 12 pro's on the books when he took over , play offs first season , 7th 2nd season and champions 3rd season and first season in the prem we finished 15th ( NOT IN THE BOTTOM 4 ) , and last year ( UNLIKE YOU LOT ) we survived what most say as the hardest premier league season in history , and now we have signed quality players in O'Hara and Johnson with a top notch stadium being built , training facillities to match any of the top sides , a chairman that is as honest as they come and backs the manager to the hilt , a MD that fans have taken too and runs the club correctly and we have a youthfull squad that will run through a brick wall for the manager , you have none of that and are in millions and millions of debt hahaha , you cant even start to compare your club to us , happy championship games next season and have fun at Brighton as your comments are about as gay as the people you will be rubbing shoulders with on the coast of Brighton !!!

Oddjob, Hammers have been relegated. It is enough punishment as it is. Even if our guest here were to win all the arguments, the cruel fact will remain. So, please. And he just passed one comment about MM - opening fire like this in return is far out. And the bubble has burst anyway, so what is the point? So have a heart.
11/07/2011 13:42:00
Pardon ???? , MM " always in the bottom 4 " and saying we have no chance of of not being in a relegation battle , hes slating our manager so no he can have both barrels on his club !
11/07/2011 13:45:00
As said earlier Johnstone in talks with us,latest talk is maybe SEB going the other way and Dann joining as well with a cash ajustment!!,lets hope we are successful with both but one would be a great start!.

Would love that scenario Crete , its that old argument that when you have 2 players that play very well alongside each other , why not buy the 2 , Dann is ranked at 10m , so if blake is valued at 3-4 then your talking another 5mplus on top for Dann and i have a feeling theres only a few million left in the kitty which would have to replace Blake more so than a defender as we would only have Doyle and Fletch as recognised strikers !
11/07/2011 16:07:00
Along with Arsenal, Juventus have now shown an interest in Doyle. As I had said, Doyle's test of loyalty is up, but it comes at a price, several tens of thousands a week, in this case. We shall see. Would that leave only Fletch, if Blake were to be part of a deal? I think he is too tied to the Club emotionally, and the fans reciprocate that. I can't see him go. Push Vokes up the pecking order, perhaps. Or will Forward -come FB-come Mr.Utility-come Forward remain a forward? Oddjob, as to our 'guest' you have a point, actually you win on points, but you scared him off, it seems. Or would it be that he is loading? !
11/07/2011 17:58:00
I've said my piece , if he wants to come back he can and ill leave it at that , Doyle aint going anywhere , if he does i dont think we will accept anything less than 18-20 million and nobody is going to pay that for him so its never gonna happen , I can see us signing a full back , hopefully Wallace as he has had rave riviews and that will be our business done i feel , Ideally I would like Blake to be part of the Dann deal and Keane come in on a season loan , but cant see either happening as i dont think we have much in the pot !
11/07/2011 20:37:00
Not sure about Doyle. With two clubs interested, not exactly an auction, but they being who they are, neither one would be willing to be outbid by a million or two. Weeks ago the Site Poll asked whether Jarvis and Doyle will be leaving, or any one of the two or neither. My vote was that Jarvis stays, and Doyle goes. At the time it was highly unlikely that that would happen, now not as much. About Keane I am certainly not keen. Outright purchase or loan, his wages rule him out anyway. Johnson on 40,000 a week is the limit, or nearly so, and can you see Robbie slicing off 43% of his earnings just for the sake of his first love?
