Wolves to sign Johnson

Wolves to sign Johnson

Good things come to those who wait and the good thing on this occasion will be the signing of Birmingham defender Roger Johnson.

Johnson has been at Molineux today and according to the Express & Star he has agreed personal terms.

The 28-year-old defender just has to pass his medical before he can officially be unveiled as Mick McCarthy latest capture.

The fee is reportedly a notch under £7million, while Johnson will become our highest paid player on £40,000-a-week.

The E&S have also reported that we turned down the chance to sign Jonathan Woodgate who has now signed for Stoke.

He reportedly wanted £20,000-a-week plus £10,000-a-week appearance money! Which unsurprisingly we declined considering his fitness record.

Vital Wolves Comment: I think everyone will be happy with this signing. He has experience while isn't over the hill. His wages are high, but to add that bit of quality sometimes you have to break the bank.

Lets just hope he is worth it!

I would be surprised if we sign another 2 or 3 quality defenders, financially we will have already splashed over 12 mil with RJ, but hopefully we will at least able to fill that LB spot... Anyhoo... really glad we've added another quality player to the squad... WE ARE WOLVES !

Yeah great news but can only see us bringing in 1 more defender , toss up wether it will be a left back or centre half , my money is on centre half as he loves Wardy and big george !

20k a week only adds upto a million over a year and thats if he dont kick a ball , if he did it would only cost us 1.5 million if he played every game and surely that would be a gamble worth taking ( Woodgate that is ) , I'd love McCarthy to go n get Bassong and that would be a left n right sided centre half signed , but cant see it :-( , its a bonus to know we are willing to pay players 40k a week , widens the type of player we can attract :-)

Oddjob - I love BIG George & Wardy!! How can you not love players who wear their heart on their sleeve?? Would much rather see a player of limited abilities give their all week in-out than a clearly talented uber-lazy player. That aside (yes i've been smoking again), RJ is a tremendous capture who i'm sure will add quality to the team and hopefully a few goals to boot. Has anybody read about the devlopments to our academy yet?? These are exciting times, we are most definately moving in the right direction. Who knows we may just unearth the next Messi. And more importantly....keep hold of him!! lol!!! UTW!!!!

Seems like a good signing, and at the right price. I still reckon 7mill plus SEB would have equated to the 10million they were asking for and would have been too high. Moxey seems to have played it right so far. Not getting into a silly bidding war for Mills (who are ya!?)and allowing Leicester to up their own bid, (just as the hammer was coming down on their previous bid)makes me wonder if Wolves aren't owed some sales commission from Reading!I'd stick to the view that we need another CH and LB,although improved quality would be welcome in any department,we all know it's the defence that was in need of major surgery.Anyhow, any bets on the North Bank being finished before we sign a defender are just about lost.
12/07/2011 15:28:00
Well the north bank wont be finished until the start of next season anyways lol , TASTY i do like Wardy and George and both can cover more than 1 position , I would never want to see either go , I just think Ryan Bertrand would have been the answer to our left back position as Wardy and George are not the answer long term , every Wolves player give there all and thats what i love about our team , also adding players like O'Hara and Johnson shows we are adding more work horses but with that bit more ability :-)

rite people heres the low down.good signing in roger j.better than anything we got at the back anways apart from big jody c of course.would have liked to see scott dann with him but looks like he will be going else where. mm needs to turn his attention to bassong now and if not bye atleast see if we can loan the player as with just roger j on board can still not see him solving our leaky defence.u still rotting them brain sells big tasty smoking that high grade, cause lets face it george and wardy are a sack of *****.if i wanted to watch a group of runners i would get a season ticket to the athletics.i want to see quality and thats the way 4ward.
