Johnson ready to get involved

Roger Johnson signed a four-year contract with Wolves following his undisclosed move from Birmingham and was immediately focussed on getting involved in pre-season.

Johnson had always been one of Mick McCarthy's main targets and for a fee of just under 7million, Mick got his man just days after the disappointment of missing out on Matt Mills.

'I think Wolves are a team who can do well and have a good run in the cup but speaking to the manager I think staying in the league has to be the first priority,' Johnson told the Official site.

He added: 'But from there I don't think mid-table is out of the question.

'I'm good to go and am training today and will be asking the manager if I can play on Saturday.'

MM is quoted as saying he's not after any other CH,due to who we already have. I hope it's just political, keeping his cards close to his chest whist deals are going on.As good a signing as RJ is, he'd have to be really something to be the answer to our defensive shortcomings all on his own.To take MM literally, he didn't say he wasn't after anymore defenders, so hopefully a genuine LB is, at least, still being sought. This is an inspiring signing, though, and I think he'll do a good job for us.I just hope there are more to come.
I think 1 more centre half OR a left back and that will be business done , yes we know our defence was leaky last season but it wasn't the season previous and we had the same players so we know they are capable of being tight its just a matter of consistency and Johnson will bring that , There is always the option of loaning someone for a season , I.E Onouha or Evans or even Bassong , all good left sided centre halfs , surely either buying or loaning 1 of those 3 would be in our reach , remember Moxey saying we was after 2 players and neither were centre halfs and he proved to be right in O hara and De Vries , so maybe we wont sign a centre half , if you take into account we lost 16 points in the last 7 minutes of games last season , that is nothing to do with ability just concentration and Johnson seems a player that has leadership abilities in him where as Stears and Berra dont even Craddock doesn't to a degree , But if i were to be realistic i can see us signing Wallace from Hearts as we have history with Berra and that will be the end of the permanent deals !
P.S welcome finally R.J , awsome signing :-)
I'm not being greedy, i'd settle for either a LB or CH, would prefer both, a LB if settling for one or the other. As for names, I can't comment on the majority of them, such as this lad Wallace, because i've never seen them play at all, or have seen next to nothing of them other than highlights on the box. The only chance I get to see them live is if they turn out at the Molineux. We've seen enough of RJ to know he's a decent player, though and he's rated by other prem clubs. We must have half a dozen players by now that teams above us would be only too pleased to have which is definite progression after only two seasons. There's no questioning the desire and commitment of the players we already have or what that's worth to I won't. I reckon there's another defender to come in, too, ODDJOB, and probably a LB.Wallace has been getting rave reviews up there and would be a permanent signing rather than a loan deal, which is a plus too.JOH and RJ are two signings to be excited about, whatever happens, another decent signing at the back would be ideal.
Hats off. We really can not grumble at this point because the players we really wanted have been signed. The squad is really beginning to take shape, but this is my reasoning for pushing the boat out. I understand progression, development... I understand it is not an overnight operation. Slowly but surely we have developed this squad but I can not help but feel that we should strike whilst the iron is hot. We need two in the middle and a left back. I refuse to back down on that, and that's coming from someone who has repeatedly stuck up for Stearman and Berra- I am not even saying get rid of them. I just think that with another of similar quality to Johnson in the middle, and a capable left back, we really could look forward to the season with great optimism. At the moment I just worry that whilst Johnson will vastly improve us, he will end up carrying whoever is next to him, and from the defenders named above I would actually choose Craddock alongside him. Pre season will determine who starts of course. I just think if we stuck with what we have there still may prove some plodding, especially if Johnson got injured. The finances are in fine form- I think for 10 million more we could bring in those other two defenders. It's not much these days in the world of football.

In the mean time, where the hell is Banksy?

I was wondering that. Thought someone else knew.
On holiday maybe?????

Chance would be a fine thing, Cretey. I'm alive and well-ish but floundering in a sea of work-induced mud. I am up to my eyeballs in it and can't afford the distraction of actually blogging. It's been difficult but I knew that if I got sucked in to the debate, I would spend all my time tapping out responses. As the deadline is rapidly approaching, with a little luck I will be back online at the beginning of next week. Is this, therefore, the time and place to wonder if we should spend the money we could make on the sale of Jarvis to help us acquire a reliable central defender and left back with proven PL experience? Bugger, I didn't mean to be controversial ... well, not at the moment. I'll save up all the replies in my school satchel and look at them on Monday, by which time you won't want me back!
Sell Jarvis?? I say ................., never mind, welcome back. There will be time enough for contoversy; for one thing, I am out against 4-5-1 more than ever before, and I've been taking some punches for it. I now expect more!
I only put forward the suggestion because of what we could do with a bit of spare cash ... buy Dann, for instance. What is controversial about that?
Strong defence with Dann as well. Sell Fletch, Blake, Vokes, Hunt, Hammill, Griffiths(no, not your Doyle, no no) along with Jarvis, then, with a little help from Mr. Morgan, we will afford Puyol, Lahm and Terry, for a really strong defence; then we can go even better than 4-5-1, a 1-4-5-0, for instance, and spectacular football to match the new Molineux. You keep your clean sheets, get your point per match, and we will finish with 38 points - relegation, in an ever harder PL. That was the darkness that was. Fortunately, and it could not have been otherwise, those in charge with the running of the Club have seen the light.
Oh dear, I courted controversy and ended up with sarcasm.
Which one is the better kisser?
Now that is what we had been missing, Southbank. Wallace next, one or two others in on loan balanced by the same out to balance the salaries, and we are ready to be off. Hope no serious injuries in the friendlies.
Banks you swine- popping up with your Jarvis for sale talk. Whilst we usually fight the same corner, from formation to the manager, the young Jarvis is one we disagree on. Number one, I think we are about to see the best of him, number two, we don't need the money. Whether they choose to dip into the coffers is up to the club, and I think we can look forward to two more signings but not at the expense of losing such a valuable asset. Villa shall no doubt come knocking and I shall sit with a smirk when we refuse whatever offer they put to us. It's bed time.

Yup, lovesW: Dann and Wallace on the books and we can play your 4-4-2 formation, confident in the knowledge that we can rely on the defence to keep it tight at the back. Even MM would be convinced so we wouldn't have to sell Doyle to avoid the temptation to revert to 4-5-1. If we do deploy that system - and we will have to on occasion - it would be more akin to 4-3-3. Ha! Ha! A4D: at least Sally Sarcasm did not throw kitchen plates or shout at me when I dared to criticize the management or suggest the sale of a star player.
Sweet dreams, Yorky: ones with a solid WW defence with PL experience in them. Regarding Jarvis, I agree with you. As I have said many times before, I do not want to sell him. Although I do not think he is yet the finished product, he will flourish in a team with a tight defence. The trick is to create it and that costs a lot of money. We are a third of the way there but Johnson by himself will not plug all the holes. We are still vulnerable, especially down the left hand side. And you've read what RJ has said: he's off on his travels again if we are relegated next year. For the moment, I feel confident of survival, believing that we will spend the money to bring in quality players. Personally, I would buy Wallace for the LB position as he fits MM's mould and has been receiving rave reviews in Scotland. In the centre, I wouldn't touch Upson with a barge pole, given his suspect temperament and lack of effort at WHU last season. I would prefer Bassong or Dann but, to return to my initial suggestion, they will not be cheap. Hence the possibility that we might have to sell someone we would prefer to keep. Tomkins does fit the mould, is young and classy, and would work well with RJ to direct him ... and would be cheaper (but would he come to WW?) The acquisition of O'Hara and Johnson has raised our profile, which is further enhanced by the plans for the stadium and the Compton complex. We are solvent and have money to spend. Now is the time to make further marquee signings. The future is bright, the future is Old Gold!
Thats why Dann is the better option Banksy,I would rather let Seb go than Jarvis and blues need a striker!!yes?.So Seb and a few million and we have our man!!.

Only teasing SB, beats throwing plates, wobblies or fits if there's a difference of opinion. Can't say that I never employ the services of Sally Sarcasm, however.Totally agree on Upson, on the grounds that he wouldn't do a better job than for us than our current players.I wanted two CH's and a LB because (with JOH) I thought we could have a relatively comfortable season. One CH and a LB and I still think we could do better than half a dozen teams next season, but another quality CH and I think we can really start to open up at home against most teams and rattle in a few goals to bolster the difference.Unfortunately, SB, the future looks orange for another season. Maybe one day someone will show the shirt makers a sample of Old Gold so they know what it looks like. It's been some time time since a Wolves team wore the clubs colours.
Oops! It's been some time time?Double time. It's too early.
Don't start me off on the subject of naff WW strips, A4D. When we were promoted under Dave Jones I rushed in to buy a strip and found out that we were being sponsored by a cardboard crisp manufacturer. I hate our new strip too: apart from the wrong colour, it has no collar and looks like a T-shirt. The best shirts were the Goodyear and three running wolves strips. It looks like I shall be wearing my Doritos strip, that is, unless someone out there loves it and swaps it for a Goodyear shirt. Oh, I wouldn't mind if Kenny Hibbitt gave me his shirt with the three wolves logo.
I have a an old Goodyear shirt signed by Bully, Micky Stowell, Mark 'Shabba' Rankin (remember him??) and Sir William Wright. I nearly had to show the Mrs the back of my hand when she tried to wash it once.
Fancy swapping it, Big Tasty? To clinch the deal I could get the captain of our local pub soccer team to sign my shirt. They sell Doritos there so there is a connection.
Wow that's a tempting offer Banksy, i'm gonna have to have a word with my agent first though as a few deals are already on the table. I suppose it depends what flavour Doritos they are - I have been known to snuggle up next to a pack of Chilli Heatwave on occasions.
Phew! They don't call you Big Tasty for nothing!
Thats why he 'smokes' Banksy lol.

RJ is a good signing, and he may be the calming influence to cut out the silly mistakes that prevent Stearman being a better player. Those should, at present, be our defensive pair I think. If we can add a left back, I really can't see us in the relegation dogfight
OLDGOLD cant see Stearman and RJ playing in the same 11 , both ride sided centre halves !
Oddjob, I take your point about left and right sided defenders but, surely, PL players with nothing to do but kick a ball about all day can learn to use either foot? After all, Jessica Ennis, the heptathlete, relearned her technique in the long jump, having been forced to take off with her 'wrong' foot as a result of injury. As an ex-long jumper myself, I know that's a far harder achievement than having to swap legs to kick a ball.
if we do not sign at least 2 more players LB .CH we are in for another relagation battle for sure RJ is good signing in defence but 1 player does not make a team and our defemce is that bad were heading for trouble surely we can afford it just off load the ones that are not gool enough
