McCarthy not bothered by pre-season results

Mick McCarthy is genuinely not bothered by results in pre-season.

We know this because it's not the first time he has said it!

'I don't think the result is important, Of course I'd rather win any game but I'm genuinely not really bothered about results in pre-season.' Our Mick told Wolves Official Website.

He added: 'I hate pre-season games and everything about it - and that game has proved it again.

'It's just a matter of getting fit for the 13th of August because these results will have no bearing about what goes on this season.'

But despite him admitting that the results do not matter and that he actually hates pre-season, here is a little re-cap of our opening game against Crewe..

We Lost.

Oh you want a little bit more?

OK, we lost 2-1, Doyle scored ours with 9 to go but we conceded again in the final 5 minutes.

We fielded two sides, which were (thanks to WOW): Wolves (First-half): Hennessey, Stearman, Reckord, D. Davis, Johnson, Berra, Mendez-Laing, Milijas, Ebanks-Blake, Vokes, Hammill.

Wolves (Second-half): Ikeme, Elokobi, Batth, Craddock, Kostrna, Henry, Kightly, Keogh, Doyle, Griffiths, Jarvis.

And that is all that needs to be said.

Vital Wolves Comment: Well done to all of the 976 Wolves fans who made the trip to Crewe, but when you read comments like this from Mick does it make you wonder why you bothered?

Those 976 fans are the ones that are chomping at the bit for their footie fix. I'm getting there myself. No longer does pornography fill the void that is Saturday afternoon at the Mol. Even Mrs Tasty's hand is getting tired - and she's got skills! Anyway i'm going off the point, pre-season friendlies mean nada. Big Mick's right. Obviously it's nice to get a win for the sake of confidence, but for me the biggest plus point is no injuries!!! UTW
BIG TASTY
And you smoke as well Tasty?I'm suprised you've got the time..

Why would you need porn if you have a mrs ? hahahaha , Friendlies are all about blowing out the cobwebs and towards the last couple of friendlies for MM to figure out what his first 11 and subs will be for the first game , theres usually 1 suprise who will fly through pre season and shock us , anyone think there will be a suprise inclusion to the starting 11 ? with the squad we have now i think the starting 11 and subs will be Hennessey - Zubar - Johnson - Berra - Ward - Hunt - Henry - O'Hara - Guiedioura - Jarvis - Doyle . Subs - Fletcher - Stearman - Blake - De Vries - Foley - Kightly - Milijas , That leaces out Elokobi - Craddock - Edwards - Hammill - Vokes , so unless 2 young kids get the other 2 places in a 25 man squad like B

Batth and Winnall i can see 1 more good signing coming in as Batth looks like he will go out on loan to Charlton , as im sure Winnall will again too and Malone is off to Bournemouth , why have kids in a 25 man squad if they are off on season long loans ? , obviously Keogh and the Hoff aren't in so i can see those going within 7-10 days , it just looks like theres room for eeither 1 top signing or a season long loan for ourselves , maybe Wayne Bridge still has something left in the tank , he certainly needs to proove himself again , and where better than a club that gets players into a tip top condition in terms of fitness/stamina ???
ODDJOB79
I'LL SHOUT OUT THIS RESPONSE SO THAT BIG TASTY CAN HEAR. MY STARTING LINE-UP AGAINST BLACKBURN IS: HENNESSEY, ZUBAR, JOHNSON, NEW SIGNING 1, NEW SIGNING 2, HUNT, GUEDIOURA, O'HARA, JARVIS, DOYLE, FLETCHER. WE NEED THE TWO SIGNINGS TO PLAY 4-4-2 AT EWOOD PARK THOUGH!
Southbank60
Bottom 4 this year sorry lads.
footballtaz1
So basically Southbank Wolves have 9 players hahaha , I said with the squad we have as it stands ;-) , Footballtaz1 if we finish 17th , its another year we can be in the prem , I'd want higher but aslong we dont get relegated thats the main aim ! , Dont forget that Blackburn are a bogey side too , its the 1 fixture i hate more than any other !
ODDJOB79
The games are all about fitness and coming back to form and working out the team. And for what it is worth, I see us finishing 12th to 15th
OLDGOLD
Oops! Sorry, Oddjob but you can understand my reluctance to start the season with a sloppy side. I hope sense will prevail and that we will get our new and shiny CB and LB. In fact, your comment about Blackburn makes my point. We certainly do not want to start that game with a dodgy defence.
Southbank60
Yeah ideally id put Bassong/Onouha at leftsided centre back and Wallace or Bridge on loan at left back , 2 weeks for it to happen yet so you never know , what im happy about is teams like Stoke/Blackburn/Albion/Fulham are not signing class acts or splashing big money just like the promoted sides aren't . Norwich have spent a bit but all on unproven prem players , We have been linked with Ridgewell again b.t.w but its on a dodgy site so prob means nothing ( or hopefully means nothing as i cant stand him hahaha )
ODDJOB79
From what C4 say, we only have to have a word with Dodgy Robson and Taggart will loan us Vidic and Evra.
all4divisions
I hate Ridgewell too Oddjob. FYI i also hate the French, coathangers, Uncle Ben and Pesto. UTW!!
BIG TASTY
Just got back from Walsall , must have been 4,000 Wolves there , Craddock and Stearman was way off the pace as was Blake , Kightly notched off a Hunt cross , was having a pee when they equalised not so long after , griffiths scored our second , looked busy but lightweight again , Batth had a commanding half , Henry and foley in the middle and didn't do much , Henry the more impressive out the 2 , second half , Hamill was quality as was Doyle , Keogh looked like a kid sulking all half , Jarivs again oozzed quality too , Milijas sprayed 20-40 yard passes but couldn't make a 10 yard pass hahaha , and Johnson hobbled off :-( , but breath easily you lot he came back on and just took a kick , nothing to worry about , but all Wolves fans **** themselves haha , Macken scored a screamer for Walsall , and Berra tapped in the 3rd , david davis looks a player in the making ( one deffo to bed in in the next few seasons ) and Ward yes WARD looked at ease at left back more so than left wing ! , Pie was nice but still had to have a maccy's after hahahaha
ODDJOB79
Thanks for report, Oddjob. I was only able to access the blog, even though I have paid for the Beacon broadcast. I'll be on the phone to WW later today to complain. I know that these games are friendlies and do not count but if we ship four goals in two games against inferior opposition, we really do need to buy in quality defenders ... and quickly. Johnson cannot do it all by himself. Is Batth good enough and what about Berra's performance?
Southbank60
Southbank , 1 of the goals was an absolute screamer than no one would have stopped , we conceeded 2 goals with craddock and danny batth centre halfs , and as i said Craddock and Stearman looked off the pace i mean the 2 goals we conceeded in the first half , it was a reserve side we fielded with the exception of Hunt Henry and Hennessey and it was Hunts first game back , We never looked like conceeding when it was Ward Berra Johnson and that young slovak Kostrna at the back who impressed me , reminded me of Jamie smith with his speed , 2nd half wolves should have had 4 or 5 goals , dominated as it was a more attacking side , no reason to panic at all from what i had seen , like we said friendlies are all about fitness and it just seemed the 2nd half side looked much sharper than the 1st half side , No Vokes or Mendaiz Laing so maybe they will be loaned out ? and you could tell Batth had someone watching him as he tried to win everything , Im glad i never made it pro though , the warm down the players do was making me feel sick hahahaha
ODDJOB79
As i said Berra and Johnson were very commanding , signs of a partnership , put it this way Berra wont have to win as many headers as Johnson looks unbeatable in the air lol , Batth is good in the air and composed but looks a bit too big , very broad , and i think he would struggle with tricky fast forwards , I think he would play championship footie with ease and you can see why Sheff Wed and Charlton are battling for his loan signature , Prem quality not so sure but cant judge after 45 minutes can you really , Craddock was woeful , an aging Jon Macken beat him in the air all the time and was his mistake as he slipped for the ball to drop to Macken who just smashed it , to say there was no Zubar O'Hara Guiedioura an Fletcher , 4 players with that something extra Wolves played some good stuff 2nd half , I would go to say Hamill will put more pressure on Hunt and Jarvo than Kightly , He looked well good !
ODDJOB79
Oh and was good to see Ikeme back !
