Doyle blow for Wolves

Doyle blow for Wolves

Kevin Doyle will miss the start of the season after picking up another injury whilst on International duty.

Doyle was released from the Republic of Ireland squad yesterday after a recurrence of his knee injury.

That injury, again sustained while part of the Republic of Ireland squad kept him sidelined for six weeks last season.

Initial reports claim he could be out for just two to three weeks this time around however the damage will not really be known until he has been assessed by the Club's Medical staff later today at Compton.

Vital Wolves Comment: It's a big blow, but when one door closes another door opens and perhaps this could be another chance for The Hoff following his appearance against Real Zaragoza?

He certainly appears to be one of the more fragile type of player.Recurring injuries to the joints are a concern.Hopefully Fletch can carry on where he left off last season so that we don't miss him too much,if at all. Roll on Blackburn!

It's a stupid time for an international break anyway, England on the final week before the seasons starts and the rest of Europe a couple of weeks into pre-season. Read more: http://www.wolves.vitalfootball.co.uk/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=3694&posts=5&mid=8648#M8648#ixzz1UcqZkuoK

I have absolutely no problem with Fletch partnering Ward upfront - Ward is easily our 3rd best striker, and I was hugely impressed with him playing in that position at the end of last season. I cannot understand why mick insists he is a defender. This is exactly why I question some of Micks' decision... he plays a genius stroke with one hand, and then completely undoes it with a bout of insanity. PS Anyone know if prem games might be affected in the Midlands?

AdMant...E&S reckon the Villa game may be called off. It was always going to be one up-front against Blackburn, anyway, I should imagine. It would be good to see Ward play in his correct position, though.A run of decent performances, should he be used as a forward, would make it a whole lot harder to hoof him back to defence.Having said that,in the event of no LB being signed,we all know where he's likely to start. It's still him or George,as things stand.

Awful news. I actually think that having paired them through most of the warm up games he was ready to go up there and play them both- this may well lead to a rethink however. Birmingham Mail just to the assumption Blake will play alongside the Fletch which funnily enough none of us have yet mentioned! I think he will be going with George at left back so it is a toss up really asto whether he goes for Ward playing just behind Flectch perhaps or Blake playing further up alongside him.

I would be genuinely surprised if MM had been planning to start Doyle & Fletch against Blackburn,or any other combination in a 4-4-2.Not that many teams play two up front away from home and I think it would be too unlike MM to go all Blackpool. You may be spot-on in your reading of pre-season,NY...just doesn't seem a McCarthian approach, for an away game,to me. Anyways,i'm starting off the season optimistically and sticking with a score draw,Fletch to get off the mark for the season.

I agree all4 but from the reports I have read I can't recall us playing much of 4-5-1 through the warm up. The players should know it by now of course because it has been used for the past two seasons for various amounts of time. When we have employed it Doyle led the line but I have no idea he could have a similar impact playing off/just behind Fletcher allowing us to maintain further down the field with Doyle continuing to hold the ball up and bring the midfield forward. Apparently sounds like Doyle may be fit afterall now so we shall soon find out. We are hearing of the spirit within the camp again, yet whilst we pretty much gave up debating further signings, sat back and showed some patience, nothing else has happened. Does not mean they will not spring a surprise, and of course the window will remain open for a while but I am not confident any longer they are actually going to spend more, and considering last seasons struggle I don't see there being much more than a slight improvement.

NYCW I think that having Fletcher and Doyle up front will give us more options, whether it is doyle dropping off and helping the supply line, or Fletcher and Doyle playing as a pair, i think that we have plenty of options to be able to change things around, especially with kights, Jarvis and O'hara in midfield. I see us doing much better than last season, the main thing is to be beating the teams around us. There may well be another couple of signings, but don't forget that there are several youngsters waiting in the wings!

NY..no more signings and I reckon we're bottom five. Any other prediction is deluded and disrespectful to the PL. One of the most over used terms in PL football is "you can't afford to stand still, or you'll go backwards"...well,unless my eyes deceive me, we have the same team that Spurs kept up, plus Johnson.IF,they make no more signings, standing still it is, then.
