Ebanks-Blake out for a month, Vokes to step in?

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has suffered medial knee ligament damage and has been ruled out of action for over a month.

With Andy Keogh on loan at Leeds and Stefan Maierhofer departing for Red Bull Salzburg, it had seemed that SEB had returned to goal scoring form just at the right moment to act as a good option and back-up behind Kevin Doyle and Stephen Fletcher.

But the injury he picked up against Northampton was worse than previously thought.

"Sylvan scored two goals but unfortunately his injury is worse than it was on the night, He`s damaged his medial ligaments, so he might be out for a month." said McCarthy to the Birmingham Mail.

Thankfully another striker returned from injury in that game, also getting on the scoresheet.

Sam Vokes.

But can we really rely on him to give us enough back up?

'If I can keep knocking on the door and getting goals like I did against Northampton then hopefully I`ll get my chance.

"You always want to send a message to the manager and keep knocking on the door of the team and if scoring goals does that then hopefully I can keep doing that.' Vokes said while also speaking to the Mail.

Vital Wolves Comment: It would be nice to see him get a chance, but I just wonder if a step up on a regular basis to the Premier League would be too much for him?

Well I hope that he can make the step up. otherwise we are going to struggle with only 2 fit forwards. Could we be in for another striker. I think that they may well be a move in the offering.

i dont think he's ready. was hit and miss on loan in the championship last season. Realistically we only have Ward as backup striker now, something I'm not overly concerned with as he has proven he is a worthy striker. The conundrum then is, if Ward plays up front WHO PLAYS AT LB !!! ??? We should have sorted that position ages ago.

Exactly,AdMant. Those of us concerned that we haven't made enough signings, were concerned for this very reason. And i'll say it again,we need a LB because we haven't got a LB.

o who would you have brought in at LB then??

SUPERSPARKES-i'm not paid the millions to come up with names.Nor am I in anyway expert on who is or isn't available. We are going to lose at least two of the current starting eleven to injuries-no question. We may be one of the teams that loses someone for the season-there's going to be teams that do.There has been an awful lot of people getting carried away this past week.Let's get 10 games played in the PL and then we'll see where we stand. The opening two fixtures were about as good as we could have hoped for. Blackburn weren't up to much and Fulham were no better.I still say we can still finish with half- a- dozen teams below us(Blackburn & Fulham being two of them)...but two injuries to key players and things will look a whole lot different.

A4D I think your right but who is there apart from Scott Dann that was the point I was trying to make. I also feel that the club has some really good youngsters and maybe this season is the time to blood them. I would like to see another striker come in, one that is proven in the top flight! I think that injuries will play a part thats why I would like to see a left back and another striker! The problem is who at LB?

hasn't lived up to his potential at all. griffiths also going out on loan so we desperately need another back up striker. i just hope its not another panic loan on deadline day like marcus bent again. move now.. Craig Bellamy, Peter Crouch, Federico Macheda, Daniel Sturridge? Surely there's someone we can get in!!!!! As far as signing a left-back goes i think we should have gone for Ryan Bertrand on loan from Chelski. Would have been a good deal for all parties involved. There's still time yet i suppose!!!! Also, Surely one from Foley, Zubar and Stearman can do a job at left-back???!!!!!!!!

ALL4 you say we haven't got a left back , have you seen Ward's performances in the last 2 matches ??? , PROVING YOU ALL WRONG by the way ! , Why are you all worried that Blake is going to missing for a week ? , He wasn't gooing to start against Villa and then we have 2 weeks break anyways so will miss the next game and thats that , If Fletch or Doyle got a knock then we play 4-5-1 , Would you seriously go and sign a striker of any of those names Smithy mentioned and pay then 25-45k a week to sit on the bench ? , Berra and Johnson will get better , and if as you say someones gets an injury and is kept out all season then someone in the squad can fill the gap until January , Reckford looks promising , as does Davis and Doherty , Everton who are skint would rather give the kids a run , and we also have Forde , I would rather see them come through than splash out on a moneyman striker ! , And if your not an expert on positions you cant judge on Ward can you , everyone moaned about his lack of covering tackles , both games hes done it a couple times , he just cant win with some of you , Personally i am more than happy with the current team and squad and the start we have had with a lot more games we can win coming up we should be in a healthy position come January and if he feels he wants to strengthen then then he will do , Smithy Ward was 10 times better than Stears was in his own position so how does that make sense , And for me Ward is a better all round player than Foley as he is very lightweight and i could not have seen him stopping Dempsey tapping in , Wards build and pace got that tackle in , I would have liked 1 more centre half for competition but thats it , WHEN not if we stay up ( unlike most of you im confident in my team ) we can add another 2 quality players and keep building year on year , what if Berra and Johnson build a quality understanding just like he did with Dann ? you can buy player after player and they dont gel , dont fit in , Beellamy/Sturridge/Crouch all money motivated , every one of the Wolves team are 100% to the cause and effort is limitless , I'm proud of every 1 of the lads who has played the last 2 games !

Ward is NOT better than Foley, he's had 2 good games it doesn't mean he's better. and Stears wasn't in his own position! he's a CB. I was just throwing names out there that's all we do need another striker though (even with SEB fit). I'm happy with most of the team. think we could do with a striker, a karl henry replacement and a left-back though. Yes we will stay up with this squad but we need to push on now!!!!!!

There are two schools of thought here and both sides make valid points. Personally, I think that we have a stronger squad this season and I am reasonably confident that we will survive. However, we are vulnerable in certain positions, especially if there are injuries. At LB Ward has been a revelation but apart from the fact that we are judging him on only two games against indifferent opposition, what happens if he is injured ... or has to play up front? We only have Big George as back up at LB and we are down to Vokes as cover for Doyle and Fletcher for the next few games. We still need a LB and CD and, if I am willing to give Ward and Berra a chance to prove their worth, we still need cover for them. I did remark on Ward's fantastic double block within a minute in my report but I should have mentioned a sprint back by Berra. Typically giving the ball away to an opponent, he raced back and in his tackle managed to put the ball out of play for a corner. He might have done some speed training in the summer.

Ah, English! The squad is stronger this season, Southbank, the same one but for introduction of RJ and De Vries, and the latter not having featured in the PL yet, and is unlikely to do so, barring Hennessey letting in four goals in one match. The squad is stronger, yes, I am with you there, but principally because of the two years' expereience in the PL, you could hardly have meant it otherwise. RJ alone cannot account for the overall improvement.
