Kightly delight

The result against Spurs might not have been what Michael Kightly was hoping for, but looking at the bigger picture, it was a good day for Kights.

Kightly was named in the starting eleven and played 75 minutes before being subbed off.

It was only his fifth league start in over two years and he hopes he can finally kick on and really get his career in the Premier League going.

'I was pleased to get a start, I was cramping up towards the end but I've not had a Premier League start for a long time and the more I can play the fitter I will become and be able to last longer on the pitch.' Kightly told Wolves Official Website.

He continued: 'I felt good and sharp and, touch wood, I've had no problems with my knees since last season which is really pleasing.

'Hopefully Saturday will prove to be a stepping stone for me to build on and try and get a few more games under my belt and really push on.'

Vital Wolves Comment: I think it's fair to say that we all have our fingers crossed that Kights can finally put his injury worries behind him and get a decent run of games.

Good to see him back, lets just hope that he can stay injury free from now on! He will be like a new signing again. And who nows if he can produce his best again!

I, too, was pleased to see Kightly trot out on Saturday. He showed some nice touches but, as I noted in my report, I thought he was a little rusty. With more PL match time he will improve his speed of thought and reaction and refine the execution of the essential skills. Even so, he was not alone in spoiling fine approach work with a poor end result.

Thats good to hear SB, With Jarvis struggling, this is his chance to get back into the fold and get some game time behind him.

Well Jarvis has been declared fit according to reports, so what does MM do now, does he stick with Kites or bring Jarvis back in??? Any opinions?? I say stick with kites and give him his chance!

Am I the only one who thinks that Kites won't cut it in the premiership??

SS-Jarvis to come straight back in, in my opinion. OLDGOLD- i'm undecided based on his lack of appearences. There is an assumption on these threads that all our squad will be PL standard but I think Kights(along with others) is yet to prove that's the case. To be quite honest it would be nice to have a good look at Hammill, to see what we spent the millions on.MM sees them in training every day, so i'll take his word for it. Kights isn't up to speed yet, though.

I think that Kightly has the potential to perform at PL level but he needs far more game time to get up to speed. As I stated in my report, he showed nice touches and his approach play was good but poor execution let him down. As MM regularly insists, the players have improved over the two years in the PL because of the experience gained in playing against the best teams in the country. At this point, the proverb about silk purses and sows' ears springs to mind but there is some truth in his contention. I would include Kightly in the silk underpants group.

A4D and SB I take your point about MK not having the games under his belt, but if there are injury doubts about MJ and SH, then start with him and have either of the others on the bench!
