Injury concerns for Wolves

Gaffer Mick McCarthy was his usual philosophical self when discussing Wolves injury problems ahead of the clash with QPR.

Steven Fletcher is a major concern with a groin injury, the striker joins fellow forward Sylvan Ebanks-Blake on the sidelines.

Kevin Foley hasn't trained all week with an ankle injury and he and Stephen Hunt have both had to have an injection in the hopes of getting them ready.

'We'll see who's available and get on with it.' Boss Mick McCarthy told Wolves Official Website.

He added: 'I've got 24 players and that's my contingency - I'll pick the best available to me who can play,'

'That's all I can do. I'll do what I need to do.

'What can I do about it? There's not a jot I can do about it.

Vital Wolves Comment: In the absence of both SEB and Fletch, just what will McCarthy do?

It is a worry, but thats the nature of the game. Hopefully these are just early season knocks and niggles, we really don't need any long term injuries at the moment!

An early season injury to SF, alongside a defeat after a promising start, it really is Groundhog Day. This time, let's hope that after the QPR match MM wakes up in bed with Andie MacDowell (joke copyrighted by SB60, 2010).

Ill wait to see who plays on sat against QPR but if MM picks Ward what was the point in keeping Vokes as every one said should have bought striker and LB only the 5th game of season and allready people are worried about injuries to certain players does not make much sense unless MM is trying to get Mcffadden hes alright but not the most prolific of goal scorers.

kia-as i've said on previous threads, I lay the decision not to spend at the owners door.It was a high-risk strategy based on us getting the rub of the green as regards injuries, to facilitate the spend on the North Bank, quicker than was sensible.Clearly we haven't a PL class option to play up front in place of Fletch.Groundhog day sums it up nicely.

ALL4D i disagree i think MM thinks the squad is good enough got nothing to do with how much the ground improvements cost the reason for this thinking is SM is a business man he is not going to spend millions on renoventing the stadium to get more fans in just to get relegated does not make sense. I think MM has said get me Ohara and Johnson cut out the stupid mistakes and we will be fine and safe in the PL for another season which to me lacks of ambition if people out there are saying theirs no one better than Elokobi Vokes Edwards Foley well the game is in a total mess to name but 4 they will only get a game if there are injuries or suspensions or playing in the FA cup or Carling cup or we play 1 up front and a 5 man midfield because home or away for the first 4 games the team has been the same apart from jarvis out injured does that not say something.I totaly believe MM thinks he has a first 11 that will keep Wolves up and told Morgan i have a squad of 24 if i can get a free agent we will be fine i think this makes more sense than Morgan saying theres no more money and playing russian roulette.

kia-we'll have to agree to disagree on it, as I have with Sparkes and lovesW. Much better that way, than sinking to the level of name-calling of anyone that holds a contrary opinion, I think we'd agree on that.I think we're also agreed on how strong we believe the squad to be.SM is a business man, that's for sure, and he'll have already crunched the numbers as regards the revenues the various suites and conference rooms, that are integral to the new stands, will generate. If someone can find me any documented proof of a manager, in a similar position to MM, anywhere deciding not to take up the whole "pot" that was on offer to him, i'd be delighted to hear about it. Truth is, Kia, I don't think there ever has been one. I don't think any funds have not been spent, quite the opposite, I think it was all spent with the clear instruction to MM (with quite some justification) that he can clear out his deadwood and raise any further monies that way.Whoever decided it, though, SOMEONE is playing high risk, or, as you and SB have hinted, someone is deluding themselves.Ah well, we're Wolves fans. When was that supposed to be easy and stress free!

A4D: it was certainly easy and stress free in the late 1950s. We knew the team would win: we only had to agonize about the number of goals we would score!

SB-there was no need for that!I think i've said before that my first time at the mol was '75. Just in time to watch what had been a very good team, grow old. Munro, Bailey,Parkes et al. I will say this though, the best keeper i've seen down there was Bradshaw and I remember us signing him, so there's one bright spot! I also saw enough of King John to know he's the best CF i'm ever likely to see in Old Gold(or orange or yellow). For the younger posters Bully wasn't fit to lace his boots as a footballer. My all time favourite player was Kenny Hibbitt...every '70's footballer should have looked like KH.So, not all dark days but as my tag suggests,i've seen them play in all four divisions and can say I wish I hadn't had that opportunity present itself to me.It does explain why I don't see relegation as the end of days. I'm still going to go, regardless. My "glory days" was the 1979/80 seaeson...yep just the one season , not an entire decade like you spoilt sorts from the'50's. Don't know what pain is you lot! ;-)

If Steven Fletcher is out, I prefer Wardy as left centre forward and Doyler as right centre forward.

ALL4D I agree with you we had to get rid of the deadwood im not sure this was to raise mony for new signings with the 25 man squad policy we could go out and buy players but then you end up like MC with a squad of 35 that no one ill buy the players they want to sell because of their wages. You then lend them out and still pay half there wages ehis is in some ways simillar to Wolves in terms of our players are not that good as MC i mean if you look at it this way Keogh and Vokes spent near all of last season on loan to the championship yet still no offers were made for them Keogh no at leeds on loan again while were stuck with Vokes and this is with alot of Wolves players who MM might want to move on these players now think there PL class but some are just not good enough and will not drop down a division for less wages. I think MM has done agood job and the players he is now trying to sign our of PL QUALITY because if you look at are squad third season in PL and at least half the squad or even more than that are from the championship or league 1-2 if you understand what im saying.

Kia-I understand what you mean....but they're MM's responsibility and he's a manager of a company, being paid a seven figure salary and it's down to him to sort out the playing staff, be they PL standard(the names you mention clearly aren't, as you've said) or not.The point I was making was that SM and JM know that, too. They run a financially tight ship and will have pointed out to MM that they are all "his" players and if he wants to replace them, he better get shot of them first. If they end up going for not a lot, he'll be judged by his bosses on that, too.

Both very good points KIA and A4D. The fact is what was available to us to buy In my opinion not much better than we have already got. Why bring in a lot of players that might be better, but won't settle within the club, and some could even disturb the team. Teams are built over a long period. This year we have brought in two players, One we have had on load and the other is quality. I would like to have seen a couple more coming in, but I really don't believe that budgets apart from the clubs wage structure were a problem. MM is the man in charge and I trust him!

SS I agree its not the money but to say theres no one better than Elokobi you have to be kidding Dann not better than Berra i think MM went out to get 2-3 players because he had talks with Craig Gardener who went to Sunderland on higher wages and that was with buying Ohara. We could have spent the money on 4-5 players all on higher wages it would not have cost anymore as we have moved out i think at least 15 to 17 players saving all there wages but the point is why with the 25 man squad rule you are then left with 4-5-6 who you are paying wages to but will never play but wont move because championship teams wont pay the same wages and PL clubs dont think there good enough but everything will be rosier tomorrow when we beat QPR 2-0 OR 2-1.

The thing is you buy players in Kia and they don't always work out. The wage structure is there and we have to deal with it. The 25 man rule is there and don't forget that homegrown players don't appear on that. There is better than Elikobi, but were they willing to come to the club as backup, as SW has MM vote for left back. We do not need bench warmers or people who get payed but don't play. And don't forget I was on about who was available for us!

A4D: my favourite was Kenny Hibbitt, too. Had he played for a London team instead, he would have be an England regular. Same goes for Tony Brown of WBA, the best shot after only Peter Lorimer.

LovesW, I have to admit that Keeny Hibbitt was one of my favourites, and a really nice bloke as well. I caddied for him at Patshull park when I was a kid a couple of times.
