Wolves were not out bid for McFadden

With Wolves missing out on James McFadden with the Scottish striker choosing Everton over ourselves and Celtic, Mick McCarthy has hit back at claims we were out bid.

It's all getting a bit embarrassing, he spent two weeks at our club, getting to know the players and staff, training with the squad, getting back to fitness and holding talks over personal terms.

Then things went quiet, he was linked with Celtic and then he signed for Everton, a club that hadn't been linked with McFadden, whilst we had been linked for months.

So why did it happen, did he move for more money? Well apparently not.

'We never lost him - he chose to go to Everton. And as far as I'm aware, there was nothing in it in terms of the finance of the offers.' our Mick told the Express & Star.

He added: 'He went there purely by choice because he wanted to go to Everton - he was there before.

'They offered him a deal to the end of the season, which was the same as we were offering him.'

Vital Wolves Comment: Personally I'm quite pleased that we didn't 'up our bid' to get him.

He was going to be a risk with his injury record and while it's frustrating to have wasted our time trying to court him, at least we haven't lost a packet of money on him that would have been better spent elsewhere.
