'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Speed will be sadly missed

Over the weekend the news regarding the tragic death of Wales manager Gary Speed stunned the world of football.

Just two weeks ago Wales trio Dave Edwards, Wayne Hennessey and Sam Vokes were all part of the Welsh team that beat Norway 4-1 in a friendly.

Hennessey played the full 90 minutes, while Vokes and Edwards were late substitutes, with Vokes scoring two goals in two minutes.

Under Gary Speed 2011 had seen great improvements for the Welsh national team, with many pundits backing Wales for qualification for the 2014 World Cup.

The news that 42-year-old Speed was found hanged early on Sunday morning has left the football world in mourning and has left the Wolves Welsh players shocked.

'It was just such a major shock and I was absolutely stunned to hear the news,' Dave Edwards told Wolves Official Website.

He continued: 'I've spoken to Vokesey and Wayne and we've all been struggling to get our heads around it all.

He concluded: 'He had a wife and two children who I think are in their teens and it's difficult to imagine what they are going through - it is such terrible news.

'It is a massive loss to everyone and he will be sadly missed.'

Vital Wolves Comment: We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Gary Speed's wife, children, family and friends.
