Wolves Bites - Transfer rumours - 14/12/11

With the transfer window opening up shortly, we thought we would take a look around at the rumours around Molineux at the moment.

Obviously these are only rumours, so not a huge amount to discuss, but here they are in a handy bite-size chunk!

The Daily Star and The Sun have linked us too Wigan midfielder Mohamed Diame.

He is reportedly valued at around 2million, however Stoke are also interested.

The 24-year-old is out of contract with Wigan at the end of the season, but no new contract has been agreed after months of negotiations.

Various reports, rather unsurprisingly have linked Steven Fletcher with a move away from Molineux.

But while rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool, must be tempting if true, a reported bid of 5million would need to be seriously improved for it to be considered by the Wolves board!

According to the Daily Mirror the club want to sign up to three players with Diame being one of them.

Johnwolf: I hope that the source is a reliable one because we certainly could do with some fresh blood in January. However, we have been here before only to have our hopes and expectations dashed. Even so, the mood this time round looks more positive in the sense that management seem to realise the need to plug gaps in the team.

I heard Frimpong was also on the list aswell as Danny Collins and Craig Gardner. As for 5 mil from Liverpool for Fletcher. Lol.... Do one. If Carroll is worth 35 mil then Fletch must be at least that.
Rustmonkey
Remember the rumours about Doyle and Jarvis leaving? For our good fortune, it is Club policy to retain its best players , the more so when the big clubs play this card of making inadequate offers.

It'll be down to Fletch if he wants to go, but clearly not for millions less than he cost.It wouldn't take 35million, either; somewhere between the two.I'm surprised there's nobody decrying the club for even mentioning that they might want to sign new players...'should be spending it on the infra-structure instead' kind of thing.Afterall, that was the argument put forward to counter those of us that thought the management had criminally underestimated the need for improvements to the squad. The players we had were going to have morphed into PL standard players over the close season, was another. We've 'never kicked a ball' (always a popular old favourite). So, where does the apparently imminent arrival of new blood leave the HC brigade? We didn't need any players, we were told. Are the happy clappers the new numpties, then?

I would like Frimpong but am uncertain about many of the others. Just because a player can score goals (or stop strikers from scoring them) in the Championship, it doesn't follow that he can do the same in the PL. SEB springs to mind ... but, on the other hand, there's Shane Long.

It'll be interesting to see if we get offers in for any other players, too.As a benchmark of how others rate them, I mean.

All4D, for MENTIONING (pity no italics) to sign new players I do not decry the Club, because they do it to keep those who want new players hoping and not decrying the club for NOT wanting new players. I myself have always maintained that the major cause of Wolves struglling is one of tactics, selections and approach. MM himself has stated often enough that he is happy ''with the bunch I have' , of course, leaving room for the possibility of improvement on the squad with an aside. Now it takes a man to say that; it means 'I have the players, the rest is up to me, I take full responsibility' It is easy, all too easy, for managers to request new signings the very moment they are given targets to achieve.

@lovesW-my comment was aimed at those (on ALL Wolves threads) that had backed themselves into a corner by their own arguments.Unlike you (ref your comments regarding tactics, selections, approach), others argued that MM and his squad were above criticism from us numpties. No matter how sub-standard the offerings, nobody was to blame because there was nothing to blame anybody for.Just a muse on the shifting sands of some opinions. The constant moving of the goal posts, if you will. These same people will now be backing MM in his search for players, that they don't think we need. They'll do it with straight faces, too.

So, lovesW, not only is it MM's fault that we are in such a pickle but he has admitted it too!
southbank60
Not exactly, Southbank, because not entirely...those bad days at the office are hell-sent, to amend the phrase, neither he nor anyone else can do anything about that, but otherwise, yes, that is what it amounts to, and the man knows it but is confident enough that he can do it again, so he can speak out in all sincerity about it. That is what I get, anyway.
lovesW
I would like to say it is MM fault he is the one who keeps saying these players now have more PL EXPERIENCE cut out stupid mistakes silly errors. Which by all accounts this season has not happened once again when will he learn some of these players are not good enough and MM has to say so shortly or loose his job. We need 4-5 -6 players in Jan or we are looking at doomsday just like last season but for Bolton Blackburn and of course the usual Wigan we would be in the bottom three what happened to top ten. I will tell you we are not good enough and never will be while we buy inferior players some players have proved a bargain like Jarvis but he has been an exception to the rule ie Ewards Ebanks Blake Berra Elokobi say no more have had my rant just so disappointed after 2and a half seasons still fighting relegation because MM is to loyal to certain players who are quite obviously not up to the job thank you.
kiawolves
Spot on, kiawolves. By now, after 2.5 years in the PL, players have had ample opportunity to show whether they can make the grade in the PL or not. Most of them clearly haven't raised their game to a sufficiently high level. Of course, they can put in a good performance now and then but they can't do it consistently enough to ensure the team's survival. One can forgive the odd duff match if a player's overall performance is of the requisite standard, but with a number of our lads it's the other way round. In an unforgiving league, this is unforgivable. And it's not just the players' fault.
