Liverpool and other potential suitors warned off

Liverpool and other potential suitors warned off

With less than three weeks to the transfer window opening, Liverpool have already been linked with a move for Steven Fletcher.

"He`s a Premier League player scoring goals so he`s going to get headlines. Players always do when they`re scoring goals." a nonchalant Mick McCarthy told the Express & Star.

Six goals this season now means that he can boast a rather impressive strike rate of 16 goals in just 23 Premier League starts.

With the transfer window just around the corner, the media will of course link him with a move to the so-called bigger clubs and as previously mentioned, yesterday he was linked with a £5million move to Liverpool.

But when asked if he thought he would become a transfer target in January our Mick said: 'No. If I say yes then I've suddenly put him up for sale haven't I? So, categorically: no. All Fletcher can do is play and score, for his career here, and his Scotland career. He`s still only a young man, so all he can do is keep playing well and scoring.

"It`s a great feeling as a footballer to be playing well. He`s a very good player - he`s excellent. It`s his all-round game, but as with all strikers, it`s his goals that top his performances off.

"And he wants to score - he loves scoring.

Vital Wolves Comment: Personally I think it would have to be a big money move to see Fletcher leave Molineux.

Of course the likes of Liverpool being interest will flatter the Scot, but we broke our transfer-record to sign him for £7million, so it would have to be a double figure bid for the Wolves board to even contemplate selling?

Akela dont know about doubleing are money if Andy Carrol went for 35 million then thats what we want for Fletcher not a penny less. If he can score that amount of goals in a team like Wolves what would he do in a decent team.

I can imagine £15million being a starting figure, all depends how badly Fletcher wants a move, if he started getting unsettled, we would struggle to keep hold of him. Not that I think he is the type of player who would become a disruptive influence.

Not a word on this in Scouseland.A possible return of Torres seems to be the the favoured, unsubstantiated rumour up there. As for the 35mill for Carroll, that was because Newcastle new that Liverpool just banked 50mill from Chelski. If Liverpool's interest is genuine (and there's no reason to think it is yet) then I think we'd struggle to keep him.Having thought about it for a few days, i'm less convinced that he'll go, because I don't believe the interest is, or would be, high enough to offer the money Akela mentioned. He's invaluable to us but in the relativity of things, his name is hardly likely to get the pulses on the Kop racing.

This happens every year, its just papertalk, lets face it he's not Agüero and hes not worth the figures being banded about. Last year it was Doyle that teams were 'chasing',that soon fizzled out,Steve Morisson and Grant Holt of Norwich, Heidar Helguson of QPR share the same total goals as Fletcher, does that mean they are worth several millions?,I dont think so.Players with struggling clubs with better records?,Klasvic at Bolton has seven to his name and Yakubu at Blackburn has managed nine in between meals,Demba Ba best value with eleven!.

In summer it was 'Doyle not going' and 'Jarvis not going anywhere'. Expect 'Fletch not going anywhere' soon.

Well, I lost track somewhere on another thread about which games we may be attending? I will definitely be going to the Norwich game. Let's nominate a pub for some vital pints before kick off! The Chelsea game is the day before I fly back so if I can get a tickets I'll be going to that game too.
