McCarthy has cash to spend

Is it really a wise choice to advertise how much money we have to spend in January?

Surely every club in the Premier League are now going to be aware just how much cash our Mick is going to be allowed to spend and of course if we choose to do business with them, they are going to want the biggest slice of that budget possible.

Anyway, the amount we are talking about according to the Express & Star who have decided to splash it across the back pages is £4.5million.

A fairly modest amount if you are a Manchester City supporter, but I wouldn't think many other clubs would be looking to spend that amount in the January sales this season.

In fact, McCarthy's transfer budget might increase further if the sales of strikers Andy Keogh and Leigh Griffiths are also completed.

Keogh looks set to make the move to Leeds permanent, while Hibernian could take Griffiths, just 12 short months after he joined from Dundee.

McCarthy has mixed feelings over the future of Sam Vokes who is currently on loan at Burnley.

So with a potential £5million+ kitty burning a hole in his pocket, Wolves have been linked with a number of potential transfer targets.

The E&S suggest that loan moves for Arsenal pair Emmanuel Frimpong and Francis Coquelin could be in the pipeline, whilst we have also been linked with permanent moves for Manchester City defender Nedum Onuoha and Wigan midfielder Mohamed Diame.

While Vital Ipswich remain certain that after ending his loan spell with the club, Stoke City man Danny Collins will make the move to Molineux next month.

I am still struggling to find out how we only have 4.5 mill according to the papers no body knows how much MM has to spend but surely its more than that. I have all ready said MM had stated he offered 4.5 mill for Craig Gardener before he joined Sunderland the money for JOH had all ready been put to oneside so that just left 4 to 6 mill for RJ depending on who you believe. Then their was the sale of Van Dame for 2.5 mill plus the hoff for 1-2mill and the other 13 0r 14 players we let go that surely adds up to more than 4.5mill with a bit of luck. Now for targets as everyone knows C Gardener fron Sunderland MM is a big fan would bulk up are fragile midfield Onuoha of MC for CH is good in the air and got pace considering MC wanted 8-10 mill of Sunderland last season 3-3.5 mill a snip Diame fom Wigan holding midfielder with skill and pace and i think we need another forwrd how about Maynard of Bristol City or go for a left back and play Ward up front cant do any worse than Doyle or Ebanks can he.

All good shouts.................Sadly I suspect we'll end up with some championship journey men. I agree that breaking the bank is not a clever move but spending money to keep us in the Prem so the New ground can be filled seems to make perfect sense. A half empty new stand in the Champioship ain't gonna help anyone. Whether we can get any of the above mentioned is mainly a case of a/ how much we are willing to pay and B/ how much we are willing to offer (wages). This January will be a real test of the ambitions of the Club. We can't afford to leave it until the last minute....get straight in there on Day 1 of the window and do what WE all know needs doing. Failure to bring any decent names in will be a disaster and will see us relegated.

I hope that the management team has made a lot more money available than the sums being bandied about. We are going to need all of it to buy our way out of trouble but it would be unwise to advertise exactly how much we have to spend. Well, that's the unbelievable optimistic spin on the situation. What will probably happen is that management will try to obtain a loanee or two and a couple of championship players/PL has-beens at bargain basement prices in accordance with their traditional crossed fingers, head-in-the-sand, penny-pinching policy.

Icant believe mm would put his job on the line by signing championship players when he has all ready said we need a bit more quality with PL experience. What we dont need is the likes of Danny Collins of Stoke whos been on loan at Ipswich if hes only good enough for the CHAMPIONSHIP why do we want him.

We will have to wait and see. Going on Past experience, and seeing the "fruits of his recruits" thus far, I have zero faith in the man.

To be fair to MM...he doesn't hold the cheque book. i'm sure if Morgan said.....go get any 2 players you want....he would. This is more a test of the ambition of the owner. Does he a/ Pay a good amount inorder to try and consolidate our league position or b/ does he play poker and pray we hold on by our finger tips as per last season. A dangerous game that could cost us 40 mill plus any chance of filling our shiney new stand.

Good point, Rusty.

Rustmonk eyvery good point MM has always said if i want to sign some one the money has all ways been there so is the money their which it was for C Gardener. I CANT BELIEVE SM would jepordise the future of wolves when he has invested to much to throw away everything to go down he leaves were in stuck
