Eggert Jonsson to join Wolves from Hearts

Well this one caught most by surprise, Wolves have signed Hearts` Iceland international Eggert Jonsson.

The 23-year-old will join on January 1st, from the Scottish club for an undisclosed fee and will sign a three-and-a-half year contract.

He has won 12 caps for his country and his versatility is highly regarded as he is capable of playing at full-back, centre-half and anywhere across midfield.

Hearts are currently struggling financially and have only recently paid the players wages for November and it is thought we might have snapped up a bargain when we agreed a fee last week.

Jonsson then travelled down and completed his medical before watching the game against Norwich.

'I'm really pleased to be here and looking forward to getting started,' he told Wolves Official Website.

He continued: 'I'm looking forward to getting into training and then fighting to get into the team.

'Hopefully I can bring something to the squad and help the club.

Vital Wolves Comment: With the transfer window set to open shortly, we had begun to be linked with quite a few players by the media, but, Eggert Jonsson was not even on the medias radar and this transfer comes as a surprise.

With 153 appearances for Hearts over the past five years he has experience of British football, so lets hope he doesn't take too long to adapt to the Premier League.

Never heard of the guy so would not like to comment but to say im gobsmacked were in a relegation dogfight and should be trying to sign players with PL experience. If this is who we are looking to sign unknown inexperienced PL players well goodbye PL hello championship here we come.

Lets hope he has more impact than the last scottish import who is now for sale,a certain Leigh Griffiths.

Kia, Crete: emphasis on the pronunciation - Yon(ss)on - , otherwise which 'Johnson' will you mean to decry. This one is an import from Scotland, Crete, rather than a Scottish import, but even then, the one previous to Griffiths has been instrumental in the defence. We shall see. I still feel it is a straightening out of the shortcomings that have plagued the defence that is necessary, not the substitution of some players that make it up.

Hang on, guys. MM and his scouts have been closely monitoring his performances for some time and, as we all know, they are experts in assessing a player's capabilities and bringing him on.

You're getting a good player. Whether he's EPL standard or not remains to be seen, but even if you guys get relegated you'll have a good utility man in your squad. He's an unspectacular player (in a good way), he's good in the tackle, can pick a pass, and gets his head down and on with the job. While at Hearts, he played in practically every position except goalie and did a decent job at all of them. His best position though is defensive (holding) midfielder, but he can also double as a right back or centre back. And he knows Berra very well. Really sorry to see him go.

...that's right Southbank. Mujangi-Bia, v.Damme, Vokes, Surman, those that spring to mind. Surman - what a game he had! As I have been suggesting, could it not be the system, then? Just a suggestion, mind you.

Defensive holding midfielder......Henry will need to look over his shoulder then. Mind you he'll probably end up on the right wing if MM does his usual trick of buying players for a position then playing them out of it.

I for one will give the lad a chance to prove himself as I had never heard of him before. Wonder how much convincing he needed.......come from a SPL club where getting paid is more of a lottery to a EPL club where he probably got a decent payrise? I hope he proves to be a real asset. Good Luck to the lad.
