Lampard goal leaves McCarthy feeling sick

Chelsea managed to score a late goal to take the points against Wolves yesterday.

Frank Lampard scored one of his trademark goals, arriving into the box late to slot home with ease from 10 yards.

He has done it throughout his career and yet he continues to do so, with clubs continuously failing to pick up his run from deep as he ghosts into the danger area unmarked and without problems.

"I am livid and disgusted that we`ve given it away, We`ve let them off the hook and I`m feeling sick about that. The manner in which we lost was appalling' Wolves gaffer Mick McCarthy told the Birmingham Post.

Watching on from the sidelines you could see it coming a mile off, so why did our players not see it?

Who was tracking him?

Who was cutting out the cross?

Who was making that lung bursting run to help us take a valuable point?

Our Mick continued: "Frank Lampard shouldn`t be allowed to put it into an empty net. We should be defending that better.

"I should be here talking about a 1-1 draw, not the spirit and how we got back into the game. That sounds rubbish when you keep conceding and I get sick of talking about it.

That's some departure from the usual tone of MM's pressers following a defeat. A seismic shift from proclaiming their awful performances as'brilliant' and blaming fans who had become 'sick of it' quite some time ago. Welcome to the ward, Michael, we've been sick of it here a while.Hang on a minute...aren't you supposed to be the doctor!

Does this now mean he's a 'numpty'? The 'happy clappers' will feel somewhat betrayed, i'd suggest.

I don't think it is an instant conversion as I have been noticing a change in tone for some time. We'll see how it affects our plunge in the transfer market. However, as several of us have remarked in the past, it's not solely the players' fault. There also has to be an improvement in the way in which they are coached and the tactics deployed.

So, is it Doctor McCarthy, Nurse Connor or a combination of the two? I don't think we'll find out because I don't think TC will not be there when MM still is.Maybe the manager has (unarticulated) doubts about his coach- but if he has, he's hiding it well. The formation and team selection, I think, are all down to MM.It's the repetition of failed formations that's difficult to take. George in at LB and Wardy elsewhere has been tried three times and DE as an advanced midfielder, rather than start Fletch, was tried already this season, too.Last time SF scored two minutes after coming on in place of Edwards.A lesson learned?Clearly not by all-and by none of those that matter. From what i've seen (with all the various squad players used) i'm partly in agreement with lovesW's long held view that it doesn't matter what team is picked, our problems are down to preperation/tactics/selections.Only partly though;I think we started the season with too many of our 24 not good enough.Too many to be in any one team at the same time, at any rate. It's usually the way down the bottom. Good players, managers and coaches don't tend to be involved in relegation scraps year after year.I think that's how we distinguish them from the others.

Good point AD have been saying that all season 99'% off players who come from league one or to are not good enough: conssidering 50% or more of our squad came from their. This is the reason were in the ***** were in buy up and comeing players from lower leagues and hope they make the grade sooner or later its going to come back and bite you just like now.

So, why is TC still there?

That's what I don't understand SB.It's not as if MM brought him in as part of his backroom staff. It's often the case, as we know, that anywhere between two and half-a-dozen different individuals come as part of a 'package', when a new manager is hired by a club. Not so with us, though. Kia-the players have had ample opportunity to prove us wrong. The wait continues.

I don't disagree with what you are saying however, I don't fully agree. Most of these players are not poor players. I honestly believe that they are having any skill or flair coached out of them. You can't tell me that Doyle became a bad player overnight or that one of the best Centre Backs in the Prem suddenly turned s%#} when he turned up at Molineux. How many players have left us under a cloud and yet turned out to be good players in different teams? It's fair to say that the step up to the Prem may be a step too far for some. SEB springs to mind......why a Championship team aren't beating our door down to sign him is beyond me. I genuinely believe that most (not all) of our problems are caused on the training ground. We buy players and then rather than play to their strengths we change them and ultimately destroy them. Freddie Eastwood came to us with a proven record.......He scored about 4 in his first 5 and then we never saw him again. When we did...he had to play a different style of football. That destroyed his confidence......he never recovered. How many did Fletch score in his first few games only to left on the bench. It was only striking injuries that gave him a chance. We coach the skill and individual talent out of our players and try to turn them into robots. THAT WORKS!!!!!!!! I can't see TC going before MM but if MM does get the chop we, the fans, need to do everything to make sure TC goes too otherwise nothing will change.

I've just reminded myself of the predictions made on the forum thread that SUPERSPARKES started, asking how many points we'd gain between the Everton and Bolton games, inclusive. It's not as if any of us who had a punt was overly pessimistic, yet we all overestimated the points haul we would manage. That's pretty conclusive proof that things have panned out even worse than we thought they would.

I did not vote but, ever pessimistic, given the present set-up, I would have dragged down the average. I hope Supersparkes, presumably overseas, is OK.
