'If It's Football, It's Vital'

It's not supermarket sweep says Wolves owner

The transfer window might be referred to as the January sales by some, but trying to bolster the squad is not like a trip to the supermarket according to Steve Morgan.

The Wolves owner was talking about how difficult it is to bring in quality players during the January transfer window in comparison to the end of season window.

But despite it being difficult, Morgan was pleased with the deals that gaffer Mick McCarthy had already concluded.

'We have brought in two exciting young players, Emmanuel Frimpong on loan and Eggert Jonsson permanently, and they are excellent,' Wolves owner Steve Morgan told Wolves Official Website.

He continued: 'Will we bring in any more? It's difficult. The manager has money to spend but it's difficult trying to get clubs to part with their players. It tends to be easier doing that in the close season. It's not like going to the local supermarket and just loading up your trolley.

The idea gave me a strange mental image of Dale Winton presenting the latest transfer rumours on Sky Sports News, an image I unfortunately will not be able to shift for a while (so I thought I'd share it.....well it is Friday the 13th).

He concluded: 'I think we are the only club to have brought two players in so far and we did both of those deals before the window actually opened.'

Very good A4D and imagine the fun that the clubs and players are having with QPR at the moment. They can demand pretty much what they want from them, and will get it. But it has been proven before money in a small club brings nothing but problems, Portsmouth anyone. QPR have a very small fan base and it unsubstanable!

I'm not sure what's happening at QPR compares with what happened at Portsmouth. If the F.A.'s 'fit and proper' checks on potential owners was in anyway robust enough then a lot of what went on there could have been avoided. They, effectively, were willing to let the Bhattis in to run a club- precisely the eventuality the checks are supposed to prevent.Same at Notts County. The Icelanders that appeared to be buying all the clubs at one stage, were financing there involvement thanks to the dodgy dealings that eventually led to Iceland becoming bankrupt.Lotus Formula One is as far removed from a dodgy off-shore 'business address' as could be.Leeds are undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in the country, so size isn't important when it comes to ****ing a football club. Chelsea were one of the also-rans in London until the money started being pumped in and hey presto, 40,000 'fans' are found. If buying big was guaranteed to fail, then it wouldn't be attempted. It will be interesting to see what happens.

Yes Mr Morgan we know its difficult to bring players in during January, that is why the close season (all summer) is the best time not only to buy the best players but also to get the best value!. We all know this,so why were players not bought in then?instead of ending up buying other peoples cast offs now?. Oh yes its the manager's job!.

An piece from the 'Daily Mail'," Against Wolves tomorrow, his team will doubtless run rampant. Who is going to stop them? Karl Henry? Mick McCarthy's side represent precisely the kind of opposition a side wants when it is building momentum. Three points on a plate".Trouble is,hes probably right!,I would still pin it on the dressing room wall though!.UTW.

Crete Wolf- when I read what SM had to say regarding the difficulties surrounding Jan transfers, my reaction was the same as yours. Wasn't that what we'd been saying? Warning against leaving it until Jan rather than getting it done in the summer. The problem, for the likes of Morgan, is that there is not a cat in hell's chance that anybody with access to him would dare say: "No s***, Sherlock!"To now have him telling us back precisely what we would have told him, given the chance, is particularly galling.I don't think these have been the most impressive couple of days in the present owner's reign. He has seemed out of touch with the genuine concerns of supporters.Deciding to announce the increased spend on the North Bank, during the transfer window, seems particularly ill judged to me.

In today's Mail......wolves sign Frederique Piquuione??? 33 yrs old.....scored 2 goals in the championship this season, Hammers fans can't wait to get rid of him, big wages, free transfer!!!! Sounds perfect for us. :(

Please tell me this is not true?,this could be the final nail in the coffin, more firepower?the premiership must be shaking in their boots!. Quote:"Just why Wolves manager Mick McCarthy sees the inept Piquionne (who has never scored more than once during a match for West Ham and has a strike rate of one in six) as the answer to his prayers is anyone's guess". Take a look at the Hammers fans comments, they cannot believe their luck that they have got rid of this Avram Grant cast off,I think you got it spot on there Rustmonkey!!!. I really am worried for us now,the fixture list is looking really daunting, in previous seasons I thought it would be difficult, but possible, this year with our easy home games gone and very little to show for it I fear our time is up. The mistakes were made in the summer and it is now too late to correct them and also too late to change management,I fear a long and painful slide back down to the division we all know so well, lets hope it does'nt take another 19 years to get out again!!. If I am wrong I will be the first to bestow sainthood on Merlin and award the freedom of the city on Coco, that is how hopeless I fear our position is,one more win by teams above us and it will be an eight point gap,out of sight,we wont get eight points until the spring I doubt. Sorry if it all feels like all hope is gone but this is just my opinion and as I said I hope and wish I am wrong!,prove me wrong Wolves !!!!.UTW.

According to the E&S, it's bs. His agent trying to stir things up, they reckon. The good old Daily Mail living up to it's reputation:not fit to wipe your a*** with!

Thank God for that!!! The last thing we need is another Donkey who can't score for toffee. If anything we should be selling the likes of SEB who would be great in a Championship side. Saying that ....we may need him back next season. ;(
