After the Black Country Derby Baggies boss Roy Hodgson continued to fight Mick McCarthy's corner.
In the build up to the game, Hodgson was very complementary towards McCarthy acknowledging the job that our Mick had achieved at Molineux.
He of course was well aware of the pressure on McCarthy and with a world of experience he probably had an inkling that he could have acted as executioner following the 5-1 result.
But he still praised both club and manager after the game.
'I think Wolves will stay up if they keep their heads because they have an outstanding manager and an outstanding owner as well.' Hodgson told the BBC.
He continued: 'I feel sympathy and empathy for Mick because we're both experienced coaches. At the risk of sounding arrogant, I think Wolves can be more than satisfied with what Mick has done for the club.
'I think he's done an excellent job and continues to do an excellent job. I'm always saddened that those jobs don't always get recognised.
But indicating that perhaps he knew the writing was on the wall he added: 'On the other hand I don't want to appear naive. I know it's part of the game nowadays and it doesn't matter whether you're God Almighty or Mick McCarthy, people are going to think there's people out there who can do it better.
But he warned: 'People should be careful what they wish for.'
Hours later, peoples wishes were granted and now we wait to discover what that really means.
