Will anyone take Wolves on?

Steve Bruce and Terry Connor are now the two main candidates with the bookies to become the next manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Not because the Wolves board and in particular Steve Morgan and Jez Moxey have gone through the interview process with immaculate precision, slowly whittling down the candidates to pick out the stand out applicant, no, these two are the only ones who have stood around and waited for the opportunity.

Even former Wolves boss Dave Jones's odds of a Molineux return are now tumbling.

The rest have seemingly already turned it down when offered or were not even interested in finding out what was on offer.

Gus Poyet, didn't even speak to Wolves after his club Brighton turned down our advances, in truth it looks highly unlikely that he would have walked away from Brighton for us anyway.

Brian McDermott turned up for the interview with seemingly no interest in taking the job at Molineux, all he was interested in was making sure his employer at Reading knew he was a wanted man and managed to engineer an improved long term contract for himself.

Neil Warnock was interviewed, but he didn't even wait around to see if he was a true candidate and he jetted off to Monaco to hold talks over the Leeds job before taking it.

Alan Curbishley hasn't even had a job since he left West Ham in 2008, he has waited and waited for the right job, he wanted a Premier League club with ambition. Steve Morgan spoke to the press the day of Mick McCarthy's departure and said that Curbs was the right type of candidate, but it turned out that Wolves was not the right club for him, so he turned down the chance of a return to management with us........TWICE.

Walter Smith was next up to be offered the job and he too turned us down for what appears to be a variety of reasons.

Steve Bruce has even turned down one offer according to some reports and while he would prove to be a very unpopular choice, he has stuck around, relocated to the Midlands and has waited and waited and waited.

I even feel sorry for Mr Bruce now, he's not someone I would like to see get the role, but for what he has done in the game he at least deserves to be treated with a bit more respect. He must know that he's an alternate choice and that he will only be offered the job once any number of people turn it down, but at least officially tell him where he stands, instead some press reports suggest he's getting impatient and might just walk away.

Then we have Terry Connor, who I subtly put forward this afternoon as a possible candidate. 4/1 with Ladbrokes and now second favourite with most bookies.

He knows the Wolves set-up very well, he possibly even already fits into the 'DNA of the club', which must tick a few boxes with Moxey, but he's a novice and an uninspiring one at that, surely he isn't who the Wolves board had in mind when they moved to pull time on Mick McCarthy? Or is it that we've just exhausted our search so much that he is now only one of a few people left who haven't been given the chance to turn it down?

Vital Wolves Comment: And what does this circus do for the morale of the dressing room?

Only in the relegation places on goal difference with plenty of games to turn it around and yet everyone is avoiding the Molineux hotseat likes its the black plague?

Not exactly inspiring for the players that they now feel so unwanted that even unemployed managers will not take them on.

The only thing I will say is that players will probably actually make an effort for TC. Stranger things have happened. McDermott was a scout before he got promoted. Wouldn't it be ironic if he managed to save us. "One TErry Connor, there's only one Terry Connor" How ironic would that be
Rustmonkey
Clipboard and Greaseball !!the mind boggles, the words will come back to haunt us,"Be careful what you wish for". Clipboard would make a good scout!for the Lone Ranger, can you imagine if they win at Newcastle,it could possibly happen,no it could'nt could it?,one Terry Connor, there's only one...........no,not possible IS IT?.
Crete Wolf
It could be argued that he's managed to dodge the bullet under numerous managers.......imagine if he dodged the bullet of relegation. The new Paul Lambert. I suspect every Wolves fan, including myself, would have a lot of humble pie to eat. Not gonna happen though ....IS IT?
Rustmonkey
Come on, guys, this is ridiculous. You're joking aren't you?

Can I have custard with my humble pie please?.

Two weeks ago I had a lot of respect for Steve Morgan and his approach to his postition as Chairman/Owner, believing that he was a man with a lot of ambition and the means to achieve it. Now I'm left feeling that there MUST be a reason why these managers are avoiding us like the plague. What the hell is he saying to these guys???? FFS Morgan, put your hand in ur sky rocket and pay the money to bring in somebody with some nouse. We still have time to turn things around. Terry Connor is NOT the man. Ask any Wolves fan. He is Mick's boy and will be doing the same things as him. So whats the point? We need a fresh impetus. Ray Wilkins for me is the only candidate who i could see getting us out of trouble and providing some sort of long term stability now. He has expressed an interest and has not turned us down publically. After the progress we've made under Mick, we are at risk of undoing all that good work if Morgan doesn't get this right. Which so far he hasn't. I mean he REALLY hasn't! C'mon Steve sort it out (and soon)!!! UTW!
BIG TASTY
Are Morgan and Moxey serious when they ask for someone who really wants to do the job and give their all ???? then offer any prospects a thirteen match contract until the end of the seson... is that because they wouln`t want to pay premiership money to any new boss in case we are going down.....Connor must go after twelve years and I think six different managers.....not one achieving any greatness with him as assistant.Curbishley disagreed about the future running of the club....does that mean that Moxey will deal with team selection and any transfers on the cheap....... they have missed the opportunity to get a manager that was half decent and made us the laughung stock of the whole football league...It couldn`t happen anywhere else....only at Wolves..........stick your neck out Morgan and give us what we`ve been waiting for since your takeover. Investment and Ambition !!! Lee Clarks record is as good as anyone he`s about the only decent name left

That picture of Clipboard makes him look confident, it must be said....

Listen you lot its now all right to start slaging SM OFF you have short memories when it was him putting the money forward for transfers. Yes i have questioned our policy but i dont think that was SM I think that is JM WHO HAS TO MUCH INFLUENCE in every thing that goes on. Please tell me why everybody and no body has turned us down SM DOES NOT RUN Rebrow like that whos profits are up by 80% so why do it to Wolves who he has invested a lot of money IN THIS TEAM it does not make sense . I agree the farce of trying to get a new manager is makeing us a laughing stock but we have to get it right not just for the short term but for the long term and hopefully the rewards that come with it.

Villa were a bit embarrassed when Martinez would not even interview but what is happening at the Wolves, I have just not seen anything like it. I just saw some random website, good write up actually pointing out that whoever (if ever) someone gets/takes the job they will most likely go in as choice number 8 or 9- how inspiring to said manager/and players. I don't care who they are or what they are earning but you can't tell me this is not negatively impacting the players. I fear a thumping at the weekend. The question really is, what on earth are they saying to these managers when the likes of Curbs turn it down, Warnock did not stick around long enough to wait for an answer and so on... If Bruce had any decency about him 'if' the call him he would tell them to stick it, but knowing him he'd still probably take it. I have no time for him whatsoever- he has dropped more clubs than The World's Worst Golf Player, Billy Butter Fingers. He has turned his back on clubs in the past and despite some success with Wigan, any better than Martinez was he? he had Sunderland in free fall and at a greater cost than what Mick spent. No I am not joining this silly talk about asking Mick back, just saying I think Mick is a better manager than Bruce. As for Saturday, if Connor is indeed in charge I am not watching it. Most games this season he has stood there scribbling pictures looking the most confused person in the ground and how he has been there 12 years I have no idea. I don't know what the solution is; that is upto the club to sort out. Kevin Keegan in a party hat? Paul Gascoigne and a bottle of vodka? At this point, why the f not. The way it is going we will be starting next season in the championship with a perculiar looking stadium and be lucky if we have sold 10,000 season tickets. There is no fun in 'we told you so' but he should have gone at the end of last season and we have discussed time and again how catastophic relegation would prove. Kiss the best players goodbye, and don't anticipate a quick return. If they pulled their finger out their arses and made a decent decision now, somehow, two wins could relegate this farce to the memory banks. All I can possibly think of now is Ray Wilkins, or Lee Clark.

It's all getting a bit tiresome... going to bed with a new name in the running waking up and seeing you've been rejected. I agree with the detrimental effect this must be having a squad low on confidence. Look, at the start of the season a few games in I was content. Like the Wolves board now doubt, probably thought we'd done enough to finish a little higher. A couple of players brought in that would not disrupt the loyalty in the squad. The investment in stadia allegedly costed against all scenarios didn't send alarm bells. McCarthy came out numerous times and said he was happy with his squad and it would do the business. So happy was he that only named 24 out of 25 possibles in January. But that's all in the past now. It is a mess. So 'small' clubs like Brighton, Reading, Swansea, Norwich take gambles and we're not quite sure what to do. I think the important thing is we want someone who when it starts to go wrong has the self belief and innovation, can learn from mistakes and is able to change things. No manager will be perfect, even Fergie has had his critics in his tenure. Look what's happening to Wenger who has established Arsenal above their station in terms of what they've spent. Is Lee Clark capable of being the right man, who knows. This synopsis of his time at Huddersfield is interesting (http://www.huddersfield.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=273319). Even so I'd give him a go. I can't understand why Ince has not been mentioned. Maybe he could give it a go in 13 games and then we sort out his backroom help. How could the players not respect someone like him who also has experienced what it's like to get promoted and relegated with the club? Initially did we all think MM was the right man, probably not. But he proved he was. It's just sometimes things come to an end. Admittedly the timing is not right, but going back to MM would be a bizarre move and is not progressive.

If I wasn't a Wolves supporter I would laughing my socks off at the debarcle that is the hunt for a new manager. The clubs at the bottom of the league must be rubbing their hands seeing the turmoil we are in. Terry Connor lead us out of the relegation mire, please do me a favour! If he does then I will eat more than humble pie.

I dread to ask, lol

RM, Probably best that you don't ask LOL. It could be that I eat one of Jez's famous pies, mind you thats if he hasn't already eaten them himself!!
