Steve Bruce and Terry Connor are now the two main candidates with the bookies to become the next manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Not because the Wolves board and in particular Steve Morgan and Jez Moxey have gone through the interview process with immaculate precision, slowly whittling down the candidates to pick out the stand out applicant, no, these two are the only ones who have stood around and waited for the opportunity.
Even former Wolves boss Dave Jones's odds of a Molineux return are now tumbling.
The rest have seemingly already turned it down when offered or were not even interested in finding out what was on offer.
Gus Poyet, didn't even speak to Wolves after his club Brighton turned down our advances, in truth it looks highly unlikely that he would have walked away from Brighton for us anyway.
Brian McDermott turned up for the interview with seemingly no interest in taking the job at Molineux, all he was interested in was making sure his employer at Reading knew he was a wanted man and managed to engineer an improved long term contract for himself.
Neil Warnock was interviewed, but he didn't even wait around to see if he was a true candidate and he jetted off to Monaco to hold talks over the Leeds job before taking it.
Alan Curbishley hasn't even had a job since he left West Ham in 2008, he has waited and waited for the right job, he wanted a Premier League club with ambition. Steve Morgan spoke to the press the day of Mick McCarthy's departure and said that Curbs was the right type of candidate, but it turned out that Wolves was not the right club for him, so he turned down the chance of a return to management with us........TWICE.
Walter Smith was next up to be offered the job and he too turned us down for what appears to be a variety of reasons.
Steve Bruce has even turned down one offer according to some reports and while he would prove to be a very unpopular choice, he has stuck around, relocated to the Midlands and has waited and waited and waited.
I even feel sorry for Mr Bruce now, he's not someone I would like to see get the role, but for what he has done in the game he at least deserves to be treated with a bit more respect. He must know that he's an alternate choice and that he will only be offered the job once any number of people turn it down, but at least officially tell him where he stands, instead some press reports suggest he's getting impatient and might just walk away.
Then we have Terry Connor, who I subtly put forward this afternoon as a possible candidate. 4/1 with Ladbrokes and now second favourite with most bookies.
He knows the Wolves set-up very well, he possibly even already fits into the 'DNA of the club', which must tick a few boxes with Moxey, but he's a novice and an uninspiring one at that, surely he isn't who the Wolves board had in mind when they moved to pull time on Mick McCarthy? Or is it that we've just exhausted our search so much that he is now only one of a few people left who haven't been given the chance to turn it down?
Vital Wolves Comment: And what does this circus do for the morale of the dressing room?
Only in the relegation places on goal difference with plenty of games to turn it around and yet everyone is avoiding the Molineux hotseat likes its the black plague?
Not exactly inspiring for the players that they now feel so unwanted that even unemployed managers will not take them on.
