McCarthy still has vested interest

Not many managers would leave their position after five-and-a-half-years and still feel a close bond to said club.

But Mick McCarthy was never your typical manager while at Molinuex and now he has departed, he has become your not-so-typical ex boss too.

That's because McCarthy will still be cheering on Wolves from the sidelines, giving support as best he can to personal friend and now manager Terry Connor.

'If Terry had left and they had appointed somebody new, I wouldn't have had such a vested interest in it,' our Mick told Sky Sports News.

Wolves of course did try to bring in a new face, but their search for a new boss, drew a blank and former McCarthy assistant TC was named manager until the end of the season.

McCarthy continued: 'he is a really close family friend now, both himself and his wife are great pals. I have had even more of an interest in it, watching it and wishing him well, because I'd like to see him do well.

'We've had a great partnership together. His coaching is excellent, he puts fantastic sessions on.

'His approach to the game, I would say is similar to mine but not identical. We discussed everything, he has his ideas on his football. He's a good coach and a great lad.'

lol I think that sums it up nicely. "He's ever so upset Doris, they've took his clipboard off him. Mick!...... Mick! get that spare clipboard of the fridge and make a fresh pot." In a minute, he's drawing a picture of Richard Stearman tackling a dead ball. That's good that is Terry lad."
