Wolves players are shattered

The Wolves players were shattered following the defeat to Bolton.

But the fans were not only left shattered, but dreams left in tatters.

It might not be mathematical yet and the real optimists will still be clinging on to that fact and good for them.

But the rest of us have now quietly accepted our impending doom.

The game against Bolton was one we simply had to win, we all knew it because if we lost, which we did, we'd be left too far adrift going into the final seven games of the season.

"We`re all shattered in there - the lads gave everything today and played well for an hour but in the end we`ve come up short.' Terry Connor told the Sunday Mercury after the game.

He's right we did play well for an hour and we initially led thanks to Michael Kightly.

But unfortunately the 60 minute mark is only 2/3rds of the game and in the final 1/3rd Bolton equalised, took the lead and then put the game beyond doubt with their third.

Matthew Jarvis might have got a second late on, but it was always only ever going to be a consolation.

TC continued: "We didn`t look like a team at the bottom for long periods and it`s difficult to take for everyone connected to the club.

"All I can ask is the lads give their all for the last seven games and approach them in the same way and with the same desire and spirit as today.

And in his final, state the bloomin obvious comment, he concluded by adding: "We will make our mistakes and have said before that we`re not the best team in the league.

Real ground breaking insight there TC, I was wondering why we weren't competing for a place in the Champions League.........

I actually think there are a few players that are playing for the shirts.....You only had to look at Kightly and Jarvis' reactions to scoring to see that and Henno's reaction to poor defending. I think Fletcher cares too. Sadly, quite a few don't and thats the issue. If I was SM, I'd put a gag on Connor and his players because they really are not helping themselves with some of the rubbish they are spouting. it's all well and good talking our team spirit and desire up but unless you can walk the walk it starts to get just a touch......Boring!!!

I bet the lads are shattered, emotionally as well as physically. They started in a very positive, high-tempo fashion on Saturday and simply swamped Bolton in the first half. And, it was good quality stuff too. As I was sitting at the BW end in the ... er ... BW stand, I saw all the action at close quarters. I still cannot believe that we did not convert one of the avalanche of chances we had. Bad luck played a part - outstretched feet and straining heads missed the ball by inches on numerous occasions - but you have to give credit to the Bolton defenders, who remained solid under extreme pressure ... in contrast to our back four. Gosh, how we have missed the experience and steadying influence of Craddock. Of course, we suffered really bad luck when the referee awarded a very dubious penalty to Bolton after a blatant dive by Mark Davies. On the other hand, perhaps we contributed to BW's luck by not possessing good enough skills to convert the chances - Fletcher really should have scored from the header that grazed the bar- and there is the issue of our static, error-prone defence. As long as we ship goals as a result of silly mistakes, we are always going to struggle. And that's about it, really.
