Pull together in the summer

Pull together in the summer

Stephen Ward has urged his Wolves team-mates to pull together over the summer and stick out the fight at Wolves.

It's a nice thought, but as we've mentioned in previous articles recently, the modern day footballer doesn't often keep any level of pride or professionalism in his game.

The thought of wanting to stick it out in the Championship for a year to get Wolves back into the Premier League is soon forgotten once the holidays arrive. Their agents are straight onto the phone to get them moves back to the Premier League.

Signing on fees for both the player and the agent usually dictates where a player will end up, along with possible pay rises. The only job in the world where failure could result in a promotion and pay increase.

At least one player wants to stick it out in the Championship and Stephen Ward is urging his team mates and the club to keep the squad together.

"I don`t think anyone would want to leave - I think everyone is happy and settled here," said Ward to the Express & Star.

He continued: "But I`m sure there will be changes in the summer which will be disappointing - it depends who`s wanted elsewhere.

"It`s important though that the club don`t let players go - we`ve had a good squad here and if we do get relegated, we believe we can come straight back up.

"There will be interest in our players but it`s up to the club to see if they can hold on to as many of the players as possible because we`ve got a good group of lads."

If Moxey manages to sell Stephen Ward to another PL club as a left back, I will take back every criticism i've ever levelled at the gel-free (anyone else noticed?) one. All four stands at The Mol should be renamed in his honour and statues (maybe some with the wet-look, some without) should be erected in front of them.No matter what the likes of Wright, Cullis and Bull achieved for the club, the sales job of this or any other century would outdo them all.Jeremy:immortality awaits you.

SW is without doubt the best LB we have. Whether or not he should be playing at LB is more open to discussion. The guy gives 100% regardless of where he plays. It is not his fault that the club failed to get a proper LB In either of the last two transfer windows, even though 20,000 season ticket holders were screaming for one. I think it's about time people gave him a but of credit for what he does. We know he doesn't necessarily have the weapons in his locker for the Prem but he is an employee and does what he is told to do. I think he would be fine in the Championship but I too would like to see us bringing in a proper LB if, IF.....we get back up.

Don't worry Rustmonkey. Ward is definitely one of those likely to still be here at the start of next season.

He is the best left back since Mark Kennedy! lol..... I am sorry but we need players who can play in positions, why over the years are we still trying to fit square pegs in round holes? He gives everything yes but still is not a good left back. He is part of a defense that is extremely poor, that fact we all agree on. Is anyone else still amazed by TC's comments whenever he speaks to the media? using words like might, maybe, you never know about inspirational!!

it is square pegs in round holes......agreed but you can't blame the player for that???? TC's ramblings are becoming almost as farcical as the managerial decision making a few weeks ago. He's saying all the right things.....just in completely the wrong situation. it's almost like when you become a manager you get given a book of Footballing Cliche's. Problem is TC is getting confused with his Chapters. This is time for the "We're in the *****" Chapter. The only thing I will say is that compared to Kenny Daglish....he actually sounds quite sensible. Their is a guy who has lost the plot.

I am not blaming the player for that, but thats not a defence is it? any player who isnt that good then we can just just say its not his fault, in which case its none of their faults is it.....i cringe evertime i hear him interviewed

the difference between him and some of the other players is that he appears to give 100%. Some of the others don't and that is why I defend him. Do we believe that RJ, JoH or Doyle have given 100% this season ...not likely. I know it doesn't make it any better but atleast the lad is trying under difficult circumstances.

Actually, he combines well with MJ down the left flank and, if he is the one put through to the by-line, one can expect a decent cross. He can run with the ball and beat his man. But, as a LB, he is certainly not up to PL standard. In early season blogs I did say he had improved but, like the rest of the team, he has not maintained that initial promise. In the end, better sides will catch you out ... that means the other nineteen teams in the PL. I am longing for the season to end and put a stop to the misery ... and the chance to begin to put things right.
