Wayne Hennessey has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season with a torn cruciate ligament.
Various reports suggest he could be out of action for anything from three to six months.
The extent of the injury is likely to be discovered later today when the 25-year-old Wales international undergoes an operation.
'He just felt his knee during the game. He went to catch a ball right at the end and didn't think too much of it,' Wolves manager Terry Connor told the BBC.
He added: 'But he felt slightly worse on Sunday so the medical guys wanted him to have a scan.'
No matter what the extent of the injury is, it is likely that Hennessey has now played his final game for Wolves.
He was already being linked with a move to QPR and a number of other clubs are also interested in him.
A move might of course now be delayed with teams perhaps unwilling to sign an injured player, but the most likely scenario is he will make his move away from Molineux once he nears fitness.
With Hennessey ruled out, Dorus de Vries will make his Premier League debut against Manchester City at Molineux on Sunday, while Carl Ikeme has been recalled from his loan spell with Championship side Doncaster.
'We felt it prudent to recall Carl as a precaution because, whatever happens, the initial scan shows that Wayne would be doubtful for the weekend.' TC told the Wolves Official Website.
