Ståle Solbakken to take Wolves job?

The eagle eyed amongst you will have noticed that on Vital Wolves we have chucked in the name Ståle Solbakken as one of the favourites for the Molineux job.

This name wasn't just plucked out of the air for no reason, this man has real credentials, all-be-it in Europe.

The 44-year-old has won five league titles in Denmark with Copenhagen, winning the Danish Superliga in 2005-06, 2006-07, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11, he also won the Danish Cup in 2009.

His record earned him a move to Bundesliga side FC Köln, but after just one year in charge he is now out of work.

Since we mentioned him in passing, his odds have been slashed to just 1/5 with SkyBet: 'We can only assume these punters know something we don't as there's little in the public domain linking Solbakken to the job and he's hardly a well-known figure in England.' Sky Bet Football Trader Paul Lowery told TeamTalk.

He continued: 'The nature of the bets is also somewhat telling with a few new accounts created and used solely for this market.'

Is a real contender? Who knows, but the whispers we heard are probably the reason why his odds have fallen so dramatically recently.

I am currently fourth in the prem with wolves on football manager 2012..
gregory house
He was just sacked from a relegated Mickey Mouse league team.....real credentials?? so he won a few titles.....sounds like Gregory could win in that league too. No offence but atleast Solksjaar has played in the best team in the Prem and knows the game.....what does this guy know about getting us out of this myre? lets at least bring in a manager who knows English football.
Rustmonkey
that Mickey Mouse league team included Lucas Podolski! I want Curbs and or Wilkins still
gregory house
Thats all fine and well Gregory but how big is YOUR stadium....
AdMant
this is doing the rounds now, its on Sky an all that! Even Villa fans are laughing at me
gregory house
hoddle was a premiership player and an England manager rustmonkey - with prats like you and admant the wolves are going nowere-just go and do one - off beeches head!
johnwolf
wahey ! another big brave statement from johnwolf's keyboard... whats the matter fella, cant find the mousetrap you usually clamp to your balls and need your daily abuse?
AdMant
Hoddle was the worst manager we had in years. instead of slagging us off.....why don't you actually put your two pence worth in and name your next manager, assistant and a few players that we can realisticly attract. Come on JW....put your money where ya mouth is.....Name names.......(waiting with baited breath)
Rustmonkey
I dont think there is a manager out there with that big a name to fit in that mouth. Cant understand all the hatred from one who professess to be old and wise and a Wolves fan, I am begining to think JW is not one of us, but a baggie sent to rile.
gregory house
The irony is that when he actually engages his brain and turns off the keyboard hero bravado, he can actually make a reasonable point or two. I don't really know this Stale guy.....yes he has a decent track record in Norway but is that league in the same category as the Championship or Prem? I am more than willing to give a new guy a chance but i have concerns over his knowledge of English Football. Yes he played for Cov in the Prem but that in itself says how long ago that was. either way...gotta be better than TC but apparently he had issues with the players at Cologne i.e lost the dressing room. How would he handle some of our Primadonna's who I am assuming are on higher wages and have a near Celebrity status....atleast they think they have .
Rustmonkey
Apparently he's got the job. An unknown quantity but I guess he deserves every opportunity to prove himself. Can only hope he has a new way of thinking. Suspect we'll see a few Scandinavian players. Could be interesting.
Rustmonkey
I work in Denmark a lot and hence have quite a number of Danish friends, they all seem to think he will do a good job in England, only time will tell on this. But we did keep saying anyone but TC, so now we have that "anyone". Cant we all name at least one top manager who at some point lost their repsective dressing room? We must give him a chance, we may have found the next PEP or Sir ALex. A lot of you were calling for Ole GS but he has only managed in Norway, a lesser league (just) to the DK premier league and I know he played in the UK more than Stål (yes I have a danish keyboard so have the extra letters lol) but so did Ince etc.
gregory house
Ohand this story is now on the sports news in Denmark too
gregory house
Do you know what style of play he adopts Greg? Will be interesting to see what changes he makes and how Teflon Connor fits in.
Rustmonkey
just asked a collegue who said more defensive minded but a good tactician too. time will tell i suppose. We do need to learn to defend!!
gregory house
If a Viking can't sort out our defence....no one can.
Rustmonkey
Interesting comments on here before this started getting more coverage.
