Ståle Solbakken to be named new Wolves boss

As predicted by Vital Wolves Ståle Solbakken is to be officially announced as the new permanent manager of Wolves later today.

The 44-year-old has won five league titles in Denmark with Copenhagen, winning the Danish Superliga in 2005-06, 2006-07, 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11, he also won the Danish Cup in 2009.

His record earned him a move to Bundesliga side FC Köln, but after just one year in charge he lost his job and is set to join Wolves on July 1st as a free agent.

'I am delighted to be taking up the important challenge to manage Wolves.' he told the BBC.

Wolves Chief Executive Jez Moxey confirmed the appointment on Wolves Official Website: "Following talks with Ståle Solbakken I am happy to confirm that he has agreed to become our new manager. He will be formally introduced to the media on Monday."

A press conference will be held later, where the appointment will be made official.

Vital Wolves Comment: His lack of knowledge in the English game is the main worry about this appointment.

He has been here before, but a brief stint with Wimbledon, doesn't really cut it when you are expected to lead a team back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

Personally I see this as a gamble and dare I say it, perhaps a cheap option?

But after making some money on Terry Connor being announced as manager, its nice to make the same trip again to collect my winnings this afternoon as I backed him earlier this week!

Absolutely ! Could be an astute move, at the very least we now have someone on the case who has plenty of time on his hands to assess the squad. In other good news, it looks like good old davey jones is sniffing around johnson... new manager in, rogue defender out, double good news day !! UTW !

I cant decide whether this is absolute madness or a masterstroke. to be honest, I think it might well be the former.

I think he likes it here....let's hope it's a master stroke because judging by the players reactions they all look terrified which might not be a bad thing.

We've been promised this huge war chest next season but isn't it a fact that the league are stopping clubs spending over a certain amount next season....I heard 6 mil mentioned......anyone??

Congrats! Ståle had a difficult time in Cologne, because players were not behind him. I think he'll bring Wolves back where the club belongs, and probably bring in. He's a good manager, and has a passion for the game. As a player he was underrated. Best of luck!!!

I'll be honest and admit that I was initially negative about this signing but the more research I have done and the more I have heard on sky....the more positive I have become. 5 league titles, equivelant FA cup, got his first team promoted to top flight then took them to 5th in the league. Quarter finals of Champions league..beat Man U, drew with Barca........that's pretty impressive. Yes he had a rough ride at Koln but apparently they were in ***** state anyway. All in all...what's not to like. Will it work for him at Wolves?? Who knows but given the options...TC, Megson, Bruce, I think it might just be a master stroke.

Thank duck. I like this appointment. He is going to shake some feathers make no mistake. They have surprised me. Good luck to the bloke> I'd rather this than Bruce or Megson as Rusty says.

With his European experience,SS will possess greater knowledge of the footballing scene over there and would be less likely to make the same mistakes as MM when dipping into the Continental transfer market. Instead of a JVD we might pick up a potential Messi!

My only real concern is how he will adapt and how much pull TC will still have in the dressing room. Sometimes people don't like it when someone comes in....the proverbial new broom syndrome. The players will tend to go for the easy option which will undoubtedly be Connor. I do hope he gets to bring in his own Assistant and relegate TC to Academy Coaching otherwise SS could find it an uncomfortable place to work. Let's hope he can command enough respect to have the players want to be moulded by him.

Well. Looking at him you wouldn't want to pick a fight with him would you. Doesn't look like he takes any ***** so plenty to change next season! I don't know why some are saying not to expect wholesale changes- I think that is exactly what to expect. I assume to idea to keep Connor on will be to tell him about the players he is getting and who has done what over the past five years, or 13. Sounds like he has had the same assistant through management so you'd imagine he wants to bring him with him. Let's hope he is hands on and runs his own coaching. What do you mean Terry, you pass it back to the Welshman and then.... He has played under, assisted and took over from the now England manager who has given him a ringing endorsement. The relegation is a blotch on his record but sounds like they were in a bit of a mess anyone so I shall concentrate on his success. 5 titles in 6 years at any level is not easy. Has my full support and I congratulate the club for moving quickly when I feared a miserable summer. Chuffed the likes of Bruce have been kept away from the job. The summer suddenly looks a bit brighter.

Guessing this guy will want to make his mark, which is what we wanted? Being a relative unknown is a good thing I reckon. Great that he has the summer and not too much hype around his appointment. The Bundesliga ain't a bad place to come from with the youngsters they've been churning out.
