'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Solbakken will be ready when he returns

Ståle Solbakken spent Tuesday and Wednesday in and around Molinuex, before jetting back off to his native Norway.

He hasn't officially started as the clubs new manager yet, but that didn't stop him putting in the hours by holding long meetings with chief executive Jez Moxey and members of the backroom staff including Terry Connor.

The Norwegian boss is clearly focussing his efforts on the new pre-season schedule which is to come and he knows he has to learn a lot in a very short period of time.

"It`s important that everybody comes in with a mentally clear head," Solbakken told the Express & Star.

He continued: "Everyone needs a vacation so that they can be ready for a marathon. I haven`t had a vacation since I quit in Cologne so I`m looking for some days relaxing without football so I`m 100 per cent ready.

"They play 33 games in the Danish League and 34 in the Bundesliga. There are a lot more in the Championship but I`m not going to be playing in them - it`s my job to get the players ready.

It would seem a fair assumption to make that the talks with TC and other members of the backroom staff would have focussed on the pre-season schedules, whilst the meetings with Moxey may have been preliminary meetings regarding possible players futures at the club.

Vital Wolves Comment: We all expect quite a few comings and goings at the club, but while we are used to Mick McCarthy getting his deals done early, on this occasion with Solbakken unfamiliar with much of the squad, our summer transfer moves are unlikely to be quite so swift as the needs to assess who he wants to keep, who he wants to get rid of and where he wants to strengthen.

As Tom Petty succinctly put it "The waiting is the hardest part..."

He also wrote 'Straight into Darkness' and 'Stop Dragging my Heart Around' and, more optimistically, 'You got Lucky'. Let's hope for the latter.

I glad to make my first post on a Tom Petty related thread ... He also wrote a classic called "Money becomes King" which could be the most apt of his superb back catalogue.

... and one for Jez: 'Don't Come Around Here No More'.

After a shocking season last year I refused to renew my season ticket but unfortunately it's in my blood so I just renewed again. Let's hope Wolves will reward our blind faith and give us a season to remember.

I know how you feel, Rustmonkey, because as regularly as the cock-ups at the club over the last couple of years I've asked myself why can't I do the sensible thing and support a local club [for me] like Fulham or Chelsea. It would be cheaper, I would spend a lot less time on the road, my wife would be happier and I'd experience less heartache. But, like you, WW is in my blood and there can be no other team for me, no matter how much grief they give me.

I take it nobody mentioned the name of TP's band for a reason.

I alluded to a broken heart in two of my posts, WS84. Moreover, I might have pointed out in my last one that although I have 'Hometown Blues', there will be no 'Change of Heart' because 'Love is a Long Road' and 'I Won't Back Down'. Even though the team were 'Free Fallin' and I might complain that 'Yer so Bad', 'I'm Runnin' Down a Dream' that 'It'll All Work Out' in the end. I'm a WW fan 'Forever'.

While not wanting to promote another rock band themed thread, I really do hope that SS provides us with the 'Stairway to PL Heaven' ... supported by one of our Vice-Presidents, of course.

Be it a stairway to heaven or a highway to hell.......we are wolves
