Fletcher set to miss out on Olympics

It has been reported that Wolves striker Steven Fletcher has been overlooked by Great Britain manager Stuart Pearce.

While the Olympics may not usually be high up on the list of priorities of British footballers due to us not usually being involved, the London 2012 has given some players the unique prospect of being involved.

Stuart Pearce who will lead the Great Britain mens team is set to announce his provisional 35-man squad tomorrow, but the BBC has reported that Scottish striker Steven Fletcher has not been included in that squad.

Pearce is of course limited to just three players over the age of 23 in his 18-man squad and with David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Craig Bellamy and Joe Cole linked for those spots competition was high.

But it isn't clear if his falling out with the Scottish national side has had any impact on the decision.

Fletcher of course hasn't played for Scotland in well over a year while Scotland coach Craig Levein has vowed to never select him again after he withdrew from the squad to face Northern Ireland in February 2011 by text.

honestly, who cares about the olympics ? i want to know what the deal is with young Zele Ismail and why we are apparently dithering about with his contract extension ?

It looks as though Fletcher is going to miss out on the thrill of helping WW regain their PL status as well, if the report of a deal to sign up the young Icelandic striker, Bjorn Bergmann Sigurdarson, proves correct. I knew there must have been a reason why we bought Eggert Jonnson. Regarding Zele Ismail, surely we will offer him a contract but all this paper talk might turn his head. I hope he takes the scenic route that Bjorn seems to have decided upon. Does SS have an assistant coach with the right ethnic Balkan background?

AdMant it was one of a few Wolves related stories I could find while we remain in limbo waiting for Solbakken to get his feet behind the desk.

I'm afraid that Fletch is paying the price for snubbing his country in the first place when he couldn't be bothered to not only be considered for playing for Scotland against Northern Ireland but worse still by not letting the manager know in the proper way by talking to him on the phone, instead electing to send a dismissive text message. His fault entirely in my opinion and from what I have read has not tried to mend things with an apology. A case of sewing what you reap I'm afraid.
