Wolves scrap plans for director of football

Wolves have, for the time being anyway, scrapped plans to employ a director of football operations.

The initial idea behind changing the structure at Molineux was to employ a European style Director Of Football, who would be the link between chief executive Jez Moxey and manager Ståle Solbakken.

It had been reported that Wolves had opted to go down the controversial path at the time of Solbakken's appointment and a few names were being mentioned around the boardroom at Molineux.

But it would seem that a U-Turn has been made and for the time being at least, with no appointment imminent.

'With the new manager we've got, we are content to run with our current football structure with him at the top of it,'

'There are no plans to make any additional appointments, apart from one extra person Ståle wishes to bring in.' Moxey told Wolves Official Website.

He continued: 'The idea of appointing a sporting or technical director is something we have discussed but we have come to the conclusion that we will continue to run with our existing staff for the time being.

'We are not shelving the idea completely because we remain open-minded about how things might be in the long term.

Meanwhile the Express & Star believe that the 'one extra person Ståle wishes to bring in.' is now unlikely to be Barnd Wiggen.

Wiggen had been Solbakken's assistant at former clubs Copenhagen and Cologne, but he is apparently unwilling to make the move to England.

Former caretaker boss Terry Connor is likely to remain part of Solbakken's backroom team alongside scouts Dave Bowman and Ian Evans, although the E&S do suggest that they might leave once Mick McCarthy finds employment.

No surprise.I didn't expect there to be a DoF taken on. At least the confirmation that ALL the existing backroom staff are to stay on, finally puts paid to the claims that a broom has swept through the club.We sacked a manager and hired another one in his place... and that's all that happened. This does suggest that all the disappointments of last season are the fault of one person, i.e Mick. What a crock! What I was more interested in was the news that SS's traditional #2 has decided not to come with him.

... forgot to say that the decision not to employ a DoF, is as likely (probably more likely) to have been SS's as it is JM's.

Well, initially you looked at it and thought 'Well, are they showing they have much confidence in the new manager if they feel the need for a Director of Football' so yeah maybe he has put his foot in a bit and said, you know what, I don't need one. Hope that is the case- otherwise it is another slice of dilly dally from the club. The best thing it could have done is put a rock between Jez and the manager because it was only last season that it really unfolded how much he had to do with the running, or mismanagement of the football side of things. Oh well, we shall see. Don't know anything about his number two either. With training not far around the corner I am sure he will be brining in an alternative pretty quick.

A coach is on the way, then. TC's posistion is unclear to me. It would be helpful if the club would publish a flowchart, detailing reporting lines and job titles, regarding staff on the playing side.

His posistion is even less clear to me than his position is!
