Fletcher to hand in transfer request?

All Wolves fans have probably come to accept that Steven Fletcher is likely to leave this summer.

Sunderland have been chasing the Scottish striker since before the end of last season, whilst Fulham and Stoke have also been linked with possible move for the 25-year-old.

But as yet, according to Wolverhampton Wanderers anyway, we have received not one enquiry about the striker.

Everyone knows that financially we are sound, we don't have an out-of-control wage structure following relegation. We don't have to sell all of our main assets to balance the books, we control who stays and who goes (or at least as well as a club can do in this modern football era).

But while Sunderland, Fulham and Stoke are yet to make their move the Express & Star believe that there are several other clubs watching developments with interest and they have also suggested that Fletcher is mulling over the idea of handing in a transfer request to speed up the process of a move back to the Premier League.

While he obviously wants to move away, currently he is set to come along with the rest of the squad at Compton for pre-season training next week and if no-one is willing to meet our evaluation we could well see him lining up for Wolves next season.

A non story started by the E&S. Fletch tweeted that he has made no such request. Speculation and trouble making by our so called LOCAL paper. If it happens so be it but let's not give it any credence until such time that is official.

Could not have said it any better. I remember when I was younger, and for years beyond that the E & S championed Wolves and seemed to give the club it's full support. There is no mention anywhere else that Fletch is, or has indicated that he is trying to force a move so this is as it stands nothing but another piece of Express & Star fiction created to sell papers chiefly. What it achieves is causing trouble for the player number one, and will no doubt cause dissent against him from supporters who take the non story at face value. I have repeatedly said that the player is too good to be outside of the PL; after the goals he has scored ultimately in two relegated sides, with his minutes on the pitch, goals ratio- I don't think any true fan would begrudge him the chance to continue in the PL, if the club choose to accept an offer. They insist we do not have to sell, there have been no bids and the player has not asked to. I would love to see him stick it out a year because I think he can demolish the Championship, especially if the Icelander lives up to expectation. There's also the small matter of SS recognizing Kevin Doyle as a forward rather than a winger or mule. Again, I urge anyone who questions his ability to score to youtube the goals he scored for Reading- they posted it as a thank you before he left to join us. The bloke was scoring from all over the place, getting in front of the defender, banging them in from outside the box, and getting a fair few with his head. He has not been given the chance to score has he. Elsewhere we also have Ebanks Blake who whilst looking off at times during our time in the PL did still show flashes of what he is capable of and none of us will forget how he fired us towards promotion the last time he came up against Championship defenses. A lot of clubs would kill to have that 4 to choose from so let's hope we can keep everyone involved in returning us to the PL.
