Wolves face competition for Demidov

Wolverhampton Wanderers may well have already held personal talks with Vadim Demidov and agreed a fee with Real Sociedad, but a deal is far from complete.

On Tuesday, the 25-year-old central defender flew into England with his agent to hold talks with Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey.

Wolves and Spanish side Real Sociedad have agreed a fee of around £1million for the former Rosenborg man, but the Norwegian International has also got interest from German club Eintracht Frankfurt.

Born in Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic his family moved to Norway when he was a toddler and he has represented his adopted country on 15 occasions.

"It`s still ongoing at the moment," Moxey told the Shropshire Star on Wednesday afternoon.

He continued: "Hopefully we`ll have something to say in the next 24 to 48 hours, but it`s not as clear-cut as some people would like it to be.

"There`s interest in him from other clubs and we`re looking at other targets as well."

Vital Wolves Comment: Was this the target that Ståle Solbakken had mentioned when discussing the future of Jody Craddock?

According to Solbakken Frankfurt are offering too many incentives for him to turn down. Demidov is in Germany now having discussions. Shame we can't offer him anymore, from what I've read he would be a good signing.

Lets hope even if he does sign we carry on looking to bring more defenders in as the ones we have are not good enough.
kiawolves
Kia, I think they are good enough for the Championship but not the Premiership. One quality signing and we may be OK. Reckford could even be the answer to our left back problems.
86lobo77
86lobo77 yes they might be good enough for the championship but to me their lies the problem. If you take the squad from last year 80% or more were from the championship of three seasons ago. And from the first season to the last not many had improved after three seasons we finally got relegated thats why we need to clear the decks of the crap. What i mean is like Berra only twelve months left on contract if he stays and plays well in championship do we then give him a new contract knowing hes not good enough for the PL if we get promoted. And that applys to most of the squad of last season i.e Stearmsn Ward Edwards Elokobi to name but a few. We need to move on and if Merlin had of seen this we would not now be in this position as he said us numpties dont know what were talking about. But most of us knew the defence and midfield needed strengthening but as i said what do we know.
kiawolves
what wre talking about.

Spot on, kiawolves. We have to think long term, bringing on players who will not only get us out of the Championship but who will be good enough to ensure our survival in the PL. Gutted though I am that we were relegated, we now have a chance to prepare for an even brighter future. That includes the disposal of players who, though able enough to win us the Championship (but could they do it again?), were patently not good enough for the PL. Thank goodness we have acquired a manager who seems to have the essential skills to achieve both aims.
