Craddock to remain at Wolves

Ståle Solbakken may have made it clear that Jody Craddock is unlikely to feature in his plans at Wolves, but the veteran defender has still be handed a new contract at Molineux.

There isn't a huge amount of sentiment left in football these days.

But throughout this process it was clear that Wolverhampton Wanderers were very concious of treating Jody Craddock with the respect that a veteran 36-year-old who joined the club nine years ago deserved.

One year shy of a testimonial during his time he has made well over 200 appearances for the club and has always given 100%.

So what do you do with an ageing defender who doesn't feature in the new gaffers plans? Well The Vital Wolves users thought that a coaching role would work well with 53% plumping for that option on our recent poll over the past 10 days.

Should Craddock get a new deal?

Poll Date: 13 Jul 2012

Coaching role only 53%

Yes 33%

No 14%

It seemed the logical step and that is what has actually happened.

He has already qualified as a UEFA B coach and he will now begin to work with the academy and as a club ambassador.

He can also remained as a registered player, just incase Solbakken has a change of heart.

"Everyone at Wolves is aware of the qualities of Jody Craddock, both on and off the pitch.' Wolves Chief executive Jez Moxey told the Express & Star.

He continued: "He`s a consummate professional who`s a credit to Wolves and everything the club stands for.

"You don`t want to lose people like that, which is why, even if his playing opportunities may well be very limited next season, we`ve agreed to offer him a new deal which will take him to 10 years` service.

Solbakken added: "It`s good to have him as cover but also important is he`ll be able to do other things to pass on all his experience."

Vital Wolves Comment: Many people in football these days will tell you that there is no sentiment or loyalty left in football and that may well be true, but on this occasion, Wolves have shown sometimes loyalty in football can be rewarded.

Glad we gave him a contract for his testimonial. Belated re-match against Barcelona anyone?
