Franek Off To Spain
As reported her last week, Tomasz Frankowski has joined Spaniush second division side Deportivo Tenerife on a season long loan, with an option to buy.
Franek, goalless in 18 appearances for Wolves is eager to gain regular first team action to cement his place in Poland national coach Leo Beenhakke's plans for the Euro 08 qualifiers, and manager Mick McCarthy is happy for the move to go through.
Wolves CEO Jez Moxey has said :
'Tomasz wants to play first-team football, and the manager was happy to see him get an opportunity.
'If Tenerife win promotion they have the option to buy Tomasz.'
It's difficult not to have sympathy with Franek.
Signed by Glenn Hoddle for £1.4 million, and hailed as the missing piece of his mis-firing jigsaw, the pressure was on him before he had even kicked a ball, and every subsequent goal less minute simply piled on even more.
His record prior to arrival at Molineux stands on its own as a phenomenal achievment at every grade he has played, right up to International level.
It's easy to scoff at topping a relatively poor World Cup qualifying group goal stakes. But his 7 goals were scored against sides Wayne Rooney drew a blank against.
And he outscored every other England striker in the competition, even after not travelling to Germany for the finals.
The fact that he failed to score in England in 8 months yet still managed to be voted Polish Player Of The Year, and earned a recall to the Poland national side is testament to how he is still regarded at home, if no longer in Wolverhampton.
Good luck in Tenerife Tomasz, and sorry the dream move to England didn't work out.
